Same type of idea as this thread but with New York instead of Chicago.

Boston + Philadelphia or any large city in New Jersey + a large European city like London or Amsterdam (it used to be called New Amsterdam and colonized by the Dutch after all) = New York.

Chicago + Boston + Philadelphia

The skyscrapers and pace of Chicago. The history and sophistication of Boston. The history, look and east coast vibe of Philly

Why I chose Boston+Philadelphia/New Jersey+London/Amsterdam:

Boston - New York is relatively close to New England (45 minute drive from Times Square to Greenwich) and as we know, New England looks to Boston culturally as it is the capital of everything in New England. Ultimately they share Yankee culture and worldview, great cultural institutions, bookoo elite colleges Icy or otherwise, large Caribbean, Hispanic, and White Ethnic (i.e. Irish, Italian, Polish) population. Both politically liberal.

Philadelphia/New Jersey - Of course New York got some "Midlands" influence from Philly and New Jersey because they historically and still do tolerate other cultures. Like Boston, they have elite colleges. Like Boston, politically liberal. Big Muslim population.

London/Amsterdam - Worldly cities. New York competes with other Worldly cities like London. Dutch founded New York and named it after Amsterdam. Of course being in Europe, they are politically liberal, and secularism took place in those cities faster than the United States, though like Philly, you will find a lot of Muslims.

NYC is in a class by itself. But, San Francisco, Chicago, London, Los Angeles and Tokyo would be close.

What do you mean by London and Tokyo? They are already pretty much equal to NYC on their own. Especially Tokyo.

Yeah, London & Tokyo are already equals to, and by some measures ahead of NYC. These are NYC's two peer cities.
