I'm from south western VA I didn't even see what was so abnormal about the way he said "picture" The other words....yeah. As for the thread. As someone from the upper south I feel like Cincinnati is the most southern culturally. It's honestly a 50/50 mix between the rest of Ohio and Kentucky culturally and scenic wise. I didn't feel out of place there. I did feel very out of place in Baltimore. I've never been to St. Louis, however I didn't really feel connected to the few people I've met from there.

Growing up I spent what seems like half my time in Cincinnati and Nashville. I share your sentiments. I did not feel out of place in Cincinnati or St. Louis, but definitely noticed a difference between them and Baltimore. Strong mid-atlantic and northeast vibes give the area a more unique culture. The people were much more extroverted (borderline-animated) and certainly have a charming quality that you don't get in Cincinnati. Cincinnati has a noticeable Appalachian and German vibe that I did not have back home in Nashville. However, having family in East TN made it more familiar to me.

I am going to violate every social norm of city-data and offend a lot of people by saying that Cincinnati is less southern than Baltimore.

Cincinnati is less southern than Pennsyltucky.

Cincinnati strikes me as a Midwestern town with a lot of briar immigrants. New York City is a Northeastern city with a lot of Chinese immigrants. Is it a Chinese city? SE Michigan is as Kentucky influenced as SW Ohio, is Michigan more Southern than Baltimore and St. Louis?

In Cincinatti, iced tea is no sweeter than a tea leaf. The cornbread is northern style. Grits are served at "Southern" restaurants with campy Southern themes, not the local diner. I think the reputation of Cincy's Southerness is dramatically overstated. I see it more as a western kin of Philadelphia than a northern kin of Lexington.
