When people receive assistance, they are not always eager to work, as they will then lose their assistance. I have a social worker in my immediate family, in Milwaukee and she runs into that frequently. Offers of jobs are refused, as they will lose assistance. You're trying to make me sound like a racist, I believe, and you couldn't be more mistaken. I have a Black grandson, and I couldn't love him more. I only want the best for him, and everyone else, for that matter.

Here's an area of Milwaukee that is home to a LOT of young Millennials, but I would not live here. Not a lot of crime, and not violent crime, but enough that I would live on the other side of the river. Do a 360, and then take a tour.

Read on, then. If you don't think the programs that the Democratic and Socialist mayors put in place, have had any impact on this, not quite sure who you want to blame.

I don't want to blame anyone, but I don't think that explains it. Plenty of cities with Democratic mayors are high on that list. It's also not the only place in the country with social welfare programs. Nothing you've said has differentiated Milwaukee enough to explain its bad numbers.

Though SLC seems just as bad as Milwaukee on this front, and the two seem like very different cities from what I know about them.

Well, when you're in Milwaukee, unless you're in a certain couple areas, you don't see any of this. Crime is, as I said, pretty much in certain areas, and doesn't much deviate from those areas. I lived in Milwaukee for years, have family there, and no one has been touched by crime. Education is available, there are job opportunities, and people have to decide on their own, whether to take them, or not.

Truancy is a big problem, and there are a lot of children without active fathers in their lives...obviously this impacts life. It all starts in the home.

Milwaukee's worst neighborhood.....Metcalf Park. Compared to the worst neighborhood in many cities, it's not that bad. I've never been, but my daughter has been there in her capacity as a social worker. A lot, LOT, of homes with no man of the house. From Metcalf Park, mosey on up to Sherman Park....that's not good, either, but very many lovely homes.

Milwaukee's worst neighborhoods, are not slums.

Buffalo (Asian 60.61%, Hispanic 49.24%, Black 53.12%)
New York (79.10%, 47.08%, 51.47%)
Philadelphia (86.11%, 43.61%, 51.06%)

If we exclude data for Asian families, Milwaukee, Philly and Cleveland are 3 worst, though.

Chicago could write a book on black income disparity it seems. Too bad, I love that city but its got a lot of issues to work out on that front.

To be honest, all of these areas do, to some degree.

What is interesting is that from San Jose to Buffalo are the areas with black median household incomes that are above the national figure. https://www.statista.com/statistics/...-ethnic-group/

True story- We were staying somewhere just south of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. We decided to go back roads, west, to have lunch in Wauwatosa prior to going to a Brewers game. I didn't realize that we'd be driving through some of the more dangerous, blighted neighborhoods in Milwaukee.

It didn't feel like the sister neighborhoods in Detroit and Cleveland, but it certainly felt like a pretttttty rough area.

I don't know if I'd call these areas slums. But, there's probably more barren neighborhoods and urban blight in Milwaukee than I realized.

If you're from Boston, there are quite a few bad areas there, as well. I have links, if you want me to share.

Yes, dangerous areas, and you chose the most blighted blocks you could find. Overall, these areas have pretty decent homes, considering. Just take a mosey around on the links, and go farther than the stops that this person chose to highlight. EVERY city has areas like this....usually, much worse than Milwaukee has. If you chose (for some very weird reason), to go through the dangerous areas, that's on you. There are many other ways to go.

If you're in Milwaukee, you've also see the beauty of the neighborhoods on the east side....miles upon miles of beautiful homes and neighborhoods. The bad doesn't come close to matching the bad in some other cities.
