Ah, this one is kinda tough! Since to me, I like both cities. That said, I'll go with Roanoke. It has a lower crime rate than Knoxville, and I'd be close to my mom's relatives. Side mention, that I hope Publix one day expands to Roanoke. They have gotten to Knoxville, but not yet Roanoke.
Cleveland, TN, or Dalton, GA?
Which I-75 Chattanooga periphery city would I stay in? I guess I'd stay in Cleveland but drive down to Dalton and get them both, then I'd spend the rest of my time in Chatt.
A winter weekend in Duluth MN or Traverse City MI?

I like Cleveland and Dalton both, too. I would probably choose Traverse City, despite being a city girl. I think the area would be neat to explore its natural surroundings. I have never been to that part of Michigan.
A cozy fall stay in Asheville, NC at the Biltmore Village Hotel or in Shelburne, VT at the Inn at Shelburne Farms?

I'd pick Shelburne, as I've only been to Asheville but not the other. Nor have I traveled anywhere else, near Burlington.
Location: northern Vermont - previously NM, WA, & MA

Sioux Falls, SD, or Fargo, ND?
Fargo, since I've been to SD but have not been to ND. The Fargo area's demographics lean heavy on German and Scandinavian. I'd look for relics in the city if they still exist.
Which prairie province in Canada bordering ND would make a better vacation? Saskatchewan or Manitoba?
Manitoba. Saskatchewan is pretty featureless like the adjacent North Dakota and eastern Montana it borders, and while western Manitoba is similar, Winnipeg is more of an actual city and there's some nice wooded and forested areas north and east of that city, making that province closer to Minnesota in feel south of the border.
Same idea, but for a more heavily populated part of Canada involving the two provinces that border New York: Ontario or Quebec?

Based on what I've researched of both provinces, Manitoba as I'd be a tad interested in seeing Winnipeg. Maybe also the town of Churchill, since I'd be minorly interested in seeing a town, that far north? And one of VIA Rail's long distance trains, goes from Winnipeg to Churchill.
And for the comparison someone barely posted before I was about to post it, Ontario. Since I don't think I've explored Ontario enough, and have been to Quebec once.
Bed and breakfasts near a train station on an Amtrak long distance route: Kingsley Inn in Fort Madison, IA, or Pratt Taber Inn in Red Wing, MN?

Kingsley Inn Fort Madison IA looks nicer, more quint and I like it's location on the water more.

Reno NV or Burlington VT?
Burlington, because that part of the country is mostly unfamiliar to me...
and there'd be a lot to explore: the woods, mountains, Lake Champlain
and the picturesque little towns.

Maui or the Big Island?
Big Island. Especially Hilo. Pigeon Forge TN or Branson MO?

Pigeon Forge, although I have been there several times. Many of us who live in TN take it for granted, but it really is a majestic place. Branson was just ok. Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Sevierville was really hit hard by the fires a few years ago. I am glad to see it come back.
Marquette, MI or Guntersville, AL?
