Still Portland, despite it's recent problems and decline. Especially if you count the nearby areas as "Portland" such as Multnomah Falls.
(National parks) Zion or Yosemite?
I'm going to pick Zion, because I've never been and it's near the top of my list of national parks that I'd like to visit. That said, Yosemite is one of the most beautiful places I've ever had the pleasure of seeing with my own eyes, so I'd welcome an opportunity to go back there again.
And now, the towns of any substance that are closest to the highest and lowest land elevations (respectively) on the Interstate Highway System: Silverthorne, CO or El Centro, CA?

Ocean City (MD) or Cocoa Beach (FL)? Two very typical beach towns; very similar in some ways-pretty different in some others.
Have been to both and I like both a lot. Ocean City's boardwalk makes a more interesting atmosphere when it's summer and I'd love to see the wild horses at Assateague Island down the road. But it also has a long off season and it's cooling off up north so Cocoa Beach sounds more appealing right now. Warm water, nice waves, and a cool tiki bar to have drinks at the end of the beach pier. I'll go with that.

more East Coast beach towns...
Stone Harbor, NJ or Watch Hill, RI?
Probably Watch Hill because I feel like Rhode Island is much cleaner and safer than Jersey.
San Diego slaughters Miami for a vacation. Slower pace, weather, aesthetics etc. scream relax.
Detroit, MI or Milwaukee, WI?
I'd pick Detroit, since I hadn't visited there as often as I have Milwaukee.
And for the Silverthorne, CO or El Centro, CA one above, I'd definitely pick Silverthorne. I'd be more interested in exploring places in Colorado. Hate to say it but when I once google street viewed El Centro, plus street viewed other nearby places like Salton Sea, I did NOT like the appearance of this nearby area(both within El Centro, and just outside of this town) at all to me. That all said, I'd be open to checking out Joshua Tree National Park, and same with Death Valley N.P.

I'd pick Banff, the Rockies at their best and I haven't been to Alberta.
Block Island, RI or Providence, RI?
