I am really not a resort guy. But I'll take Riverstone, since I could leave the hotel and explore the Smokies --- mountains appeal to me a lot more than saltwater beaches. I'd also love to visit Asheville.
You're visiting NYC and have to stay inside one of these boroughs, besides your trip to and from the airport: Staten Island or the Bronx?

Staten Island seems safer, but sometimes I like to live dangerously lol, I'd take a walk on the Wild Side and stay in the Bronx because it has a few more sites I want to check out like Bronx zoo and Yankee Stadium and in the Bronx feel like I'm getting that true New York Urban flavor
Most Impressive Architecture to visit, including the observation decks
Willis Tower in Chicago or Freedom Tower in New York
Mt Hood I wanna see Mt Hood, and it's close to Washington a state I like and not far from Portland either
Oklahoma City or Jackson Mississippi
Jackson's seen a lot of action in country songs, so there must be something to it.
Interesting Civil War history nearby. Always wanted to drive the length of the Natchez Trace, so I might take that to get there.
Astoria, Oregon or Steamboat Springs, Colorado?
