It's seems almost impossible to find an exact number regarding the number of homicides this year in Cleveland, but as of Sept. 7th, it was at 115, compared to 119 at that point last year. But of course that was 2 weeks ago so I have no idea right now.
However, the past seems far slower compared to the beginning of the year which was more than 50% over 2020, by April of this year.
This includes a mass shooting on 9/20 with 6 shot, 1 killed, middle of a Monday afternoon, near the same location (a subway station no less) of another mass shooting last winter.
That's +7; dang, Philly is heading for a record annual homicide total in 2021. 2020 just missed the annual record set back in the early '90s. 2020 total was 499. Expect Philly to be 400+ by October 1.

For comparison Philadelphia recorded its 400th homicide for 1990 on October 23.

I knew 1990 was the homicide record for Philly with a total of about 500 as I recall the 2020 missed tying this unfortunate total by 1; 2020 saw 499 total Philly homicides.
So, Philly is as of 9/22: 393. The grim milestone of 400 should be reached over the weekend; let's hope not and rainy weather is supposed to start today into tomorrow followed by cool evenings. At least that's the theory.
But when you have a female customer, irritated that a Philly Chipotle was closing, pull a gun out on a worker forcing him to make her something to eat, weather conditions are much less relevant in reducing homicides.
Sadly, Philly is on track for well over 500+ homicides this year, a new, yet grim, record.

While the milestone is grim, these disturbing stories are a nationwide occurrence, hardly a Philadelphia problem. Just Google violent crime in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, DC, San Fran, etc. and you will all the recent disturbing stories.
This particular instance is a reflection of American societal failures: Everyone has easy access to a gun, therefore they own a gun. (thank you Republican party).
Next, little to no respect for anything: rules, laws, police, etc. (thank you both parties).

My point, we are in a mess everywhere.
It's well known that there is a mess everywhere but this a city/metro homicide thread so specific cities are mentioned. No one has stated anywhere that this is an issue unique to Philly; the whole country is dealing with the Floyd Effect.
However, Philly is somewhat unique in that it is on track for breaking its all-time homicide record dating back the the real bad early '90s; that total is 500 and 2020 was just shy of tying this awful # by 1 and breaking it by 2.
Philly having a real rough September.
Also, we shouldn't bring politics into this thread.

...and 2 more days later, the number in Philly as of 9/23: 397.
Included in the 6 killed in Weds-Thursday, a 29-year old male Lyft driver sitting in his car at 7:30pm in an area known as ''Nicetown''...or more appropriately ''Not So Nicetown''...dude was shot 7 times...obviously was targeted.
Yikes. Poor Cincinnati. It has an almost identical population to Pittsburgh, yet we are only at 45 so far for 2021. I thought 45 was way too high, too, for a city of just over 300,000.
