Does anyone have a sense if the increase in the murder rate has continued to slow down from earlier in the year? I know things are still up year to year in most cities but it did seem like things were starting to get better.

Austin is up to 71 now. We are on pace for 80-85 with the old record being 59, I believe.

Weird how such a big discrepancy came about.

I hate to say but this nothing compared to our neighbors down south of us.

I just found this article. Give it a read.

https://www.usnews.com/news/world/ar...spite-pandemic

"The most authoritative count of homicides in Mexico was published Tuesday and it shows killings remain essentially unchanged at 36,579 in 2020.

Even though the coronavirus pandemic reduced many activities in Mexico in 2020, the number of killings was essentially equal to the 36,661 that occurred in 2019.

That means that Mexico’s nation-wide murder rate in 2020 remained unchanged at 29 per 100,000 inhabitants. By comparison, the U.S. homicide rate in 2019 was 5.8 per 100,000.
"

The entire country of Mexico has a homicide rate as bad as the city of Chicago!!

The Cincinnati police website updated their count to 75 through 10/16 so that should raise the total closer to what your originally had.

Sorry for any confusion I caused. I have always though the police website's total to be spot on but I guess they've had their own issues over the past few weeks.

Is this for the city proper or the metro area? I ask because if it is the city proper, that is out of about 1.8 million people and a metro of about 4.3 million. If that was in the US, people would think that is a drop in the bucket to where cities of mid sized US metros with that many are viewed as relatively average.

It's for the whole island (although there are demerged cities, Montreal police patrol the whole island), which is at about ~2.069 million as of 2020.

0 in my little well armed town. Everyone has multiple assault weapons, hand guns, suppressors, ect. Funny, it’s very very safe here.
