What's happening in the Bay Area is that cops who can't enforce real laws are turning over to writing citations for not wearing masks and going after whatever petty crime they can get people for. The dysfunction is regional and quality of life here is dropping for everyone.

It is funny how it seems in cities with criminal loving DA's and city leadership that homicides seem to be skyrocketing.
Austin, TX is now at 74, adding to its record amount of homicides and on pace to hit just under 90 for the year. The old record for homicides was 59 which was set in the crack era. The average for the last 10 years is in the 25-40 range. The DA here is a criminal loving, cop hating attorney, and hands out PR bonds for everything from aggravated robberies, to sexual assault, aggravated assault, and burglaries. Not to mention the police force has been defunded, 30 officers are leaving a month, and almost all specialized units have been dissolved into patrol, which is still at critically low staffing levels. The police here aren't even responding to crimes that are no longer in progress anymore, even though a suspect can still be in the area. Victims are literally being turned away by 911.

It's also crazy how clustered homicide is in 4 locations.
East 6th Street, past midnight.
North Lamar/Rundberg
Riverside-Oltorf
Cameron Road (Especially between 183 and 290).
Those 4 areas account for 36 or roughly 50% of the homicides in Austin.
United States has recorded 16,393 homicides so far in 2021 the total was 19,411 in 2020 the U.S is on track to record highest homicides total since 1998 in 2021.
Homicides, thefts, shootings are up but overall crime is down compare to 2020, 2019 and other years.
Homicides are down 79% in NYC compare to 1990, nearly 30% compare to 2001
Overall crime is down 81% in NYC compare to 1990 and 41% compare to 2001
