Honest question - where would she be if she had stayed in Houston? She literally ingratiated herself in the Minneapolis music scene - member of two groups GRRRL PRTY the Chalice, went on tour with Minneapolis hip-hop groups, and worked with Prince. Her current DJ is from Minneapolis and one or all of her dancers from MN as well.

You mean just like the long list of musicians that gain fame after moving? You'd have to convince her to stop repping Houston, not me.

On the other hand, Drake's breakthrough was in Houston. Hence his Houston tattoo. Does this make him all of a sudden be from Houston? No he's still a Toronto guy.

They go by so many past thread comments of Atlanta's arrival. We remenber also the thread on Atlanta even superior comments to NYC for Rap.

Still, you younger Rap/Hip Hop loverslovers ---- Still, there is a LEGACY list of cities that impacted OUR American contributions to the world of music and the more current one also. WHY downplay this legacy that influenced Raps evolution that bagan in the late 70s and evolved in the 80s Rocks huge Dad Rock to Grand-Pap era.

Rest assured.... this era of music is alive for many yet. We merely do not need to purchase new recordings of them. Even Country has its place even in current sales and Nashville still very much in a recording scene today.

Time will tell Raps legacy also in music evolution. There may never be another music vidio era of Rock and live concert scene of Artist that had to play truely play instruments together and have singing talent to make each unique. Still, some of them old-Dad- Rockers were filling world stadiums of Millenials thru the 2000s.

Who knows what music will evolve to into the 2030s? A revival of a Rock-type? Who knows. Plenty appreciate the decades WHEN ONES PARENTS AND GRAND-PARENTS ..... COULD BE AND WERE COOLER THEM THEM, with much more freedom to party etc.

If that was the case, they'd know Atlanta has a place on this list.

Nobody was doing that. That poster was totally ignorant of Atlanta's contributions to music.

Clarksdale birthplace of Blues.
New Orleans for Jazz.
Nashville for Country.
Hattiesburg origin of Rock.

Big cities help promote & popularize a couple of music that originates in small cities. People needs to give smaller places EQUAL attention & respect like big cities.

Basically, it is comes down to cities that took these forms of music and though migrations etc..... made it more mainstream that get the credit for how the world sees it. It took more urban areas to evolve and gain recognition for musical forms that then gives them credit. Still the path of evolution in history can be noted.... even the Blues has its evolution as it was taken Northward and became part of the term Urban Blues that gained further credit and could influence much much more.

Equal billing is a hard aspect to pinpoint. As many then share or wish to that claim. One can use a small city and claim a first artist from there. Still took New Orleans up the Mississippi and the mass migration Northward to really take it from what it could not be remaining in its localize region. Why major artist clearly took their craft where they could really make a impact and be given credit that otherwise never could have come.

This also reminds me of my home County in PA. where a 3 small cities lay claim to Thomas Edison's work. First Hotel with electric lights and streetlights. A nearby city with the first Church and second city with some street-lighting and first full house electrified and another city claiming yet it had the first room of a home. Hotel still stands, Church was rebuilt after a 1971 fire that only its stone walls remained to be rebuilt totally inside keeping the exterior.

https://susquehannavalley.blogspot.c...-shamokin.html

These are just small dots on Thomas Edison's evolution and only indept history accounts for them vs his venture into larger markets where it took off.
