Venture a half-mile off the gaudy, neon-lit Strip and LV becomes one of the most depressing cities in America. On second thought, even if you remain on the Strip it's one of the most depressing cities in America. Nobody's ever accused me of being a prude, but the entire point of LV is to lure in knuckle-draggers to sit down at a slot machine or a poker table and fleece them for all they have. I don't care how many over-the-top shows, how many restaurants, how many chi-chi boutiques you find there. It's just basically the Mouth Breather Capital of America. Absolutely gross.
LV's surrounding mountains are pretty, but a more like a barren moonscape than anything. In other words, perfectly symbolic of Las Vegas' soul.
San Diego and it’s surrounding and adjacent cities, such as La Jolla, Carlsbad and Del Mar are simply gorgeous. Las Vegas has the Strip, but not much else. (Nothing against Vegas.)
Obviously SD would win this. However Las Vegas has some of the most underrated mountain vows in the country imo. I’d say LV is beautiful but SD just has more going for it in the scenery department
Las Vegas may be closer to more national parks (Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Zion, Sequoia), but its basically Phoenix with some gaudiness along Las Vegas Blvd. and Fremont St. There seems to be a lot more trash in the tourist areas as well.
San Diego not only has the ocean and harbor, but more varied terrain in town, one of the best urban parks in the country, better flora/fauna due to the Mediterranean climate, and is cleaner overall.
There's a certain beauty in the desert among the mountains.
Unfortunately, they just had to put Vegas there.
Even if they hadn't, San Diego has a lot more going for it in that department.
Very odd comparison, almost not taking it seriously. Um, San Diego is very beautiful, Las Vegas is very tacky. I'm not saying LV has no beauty. It does, but I really doesn't showcase or take advantage of it very well at all. SD does.
