Those pics btown posted really don't look bad. Those look like the nice parts of Lawrence or Waterbury.

Buffalo, on the other hand, is way more run down and blighted than anyplace I've seen in NE, unless you cherry pick tiny neighborhoods. Even albany is much more run down than rochester despite being much safer.

Maybe it is the lack of the same scale industrial past that makes Rochester look nicer? Rotting mill buildings in lawrence, waterbury, bridgeport bring down the entire environment, were big sources of pollution and good places to go and shoot up inside of.
Again, these aren't small areas of the city and make up a substantial portion. https://www.city-data.com/forum/60532601-post182.html

Albany also has its share of solid to very nice neighborhoods: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.6600...2!9m2!1b1!2i37

Keep in mind that the city is only a little bit over 21 square miles in size.

Lawrence has actually come a long way in terms of livability not just since the 90s but in the last few years aswell. There is probably still a fair bit of unreported crime, but the reported numbers are downright decent. It feels safe walking around downtown and down by the train station. A decent amount of redevelopment has happened on the riverfront building.

However it hasn't reduced the drug trade at all, which is as strong as ever. I would say they do control a big market share of the trade for northern NE. I wouldn't be surprised if some does come through Boston, but the city has a weak connection to Boston overall given its proximity. Culturally it seems more tied to NYC than to Boston. People who 'make it' in Lawrence seem to usually move to NYC
I mean.. I dunno Lawrence seems to be connected to Boston culturally to me, but it feels more like the Bronx but wooden. lot of people in Boston go to Lawrence for concerts at El Centro. I do know PopSmoke was around Lawrence.

NYC and Providence sure, but no one is going NYC to Lawrence to Boston. Just anecdotally there seems to be way or money on the streets in Boston than anywhere else.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "Boston". City of Boston itself (particularly the southern neighborhoods), yeah far more Providence. But when talking the Boston "market" (out to 128, etc., it's all tied) Lawrence is definitely involved. Do I know where that magic cut-off line is no, I'm sure there is some overlap and that of course alters by the month with whoever/whatever is going on at the time. Charlestown has ties to Somerville, Medford, Woburn...East Boston the N Shore. Of course Boston is where the gangs (big players) are based, hence all the money floating around there.

Edit: But my point is the drugs arriving in Boston (from wherever) are for local consumption, as opposed to being milled and/or divvied up for redistribution elsewhere.

Meaning Dominican family ties/migration patterns. Probably more recent NYC-Lawrence "direct flights" than NYC-Boston-Lawrence, etc. piece migration. I'm not familiar with Lawrence, but I've been given that impression as well. Seems like a whole different world from Boston, up there.

Yea it is connected in some ways, but I don't think the drug trade is really one of them. It is somewhat speculation, since the people involved don't exactly talk about this stuff and it isn't something to be digging your nose into. However I lived in the area for many years, and know many people who live in Lawrence. I have a basic idea of how it works and what i've heard from people.

People claim to get ther stuff right from the boat most of the time. Others will claim to get it directly from their guy in Miami or will say it came from their cousin in NYC. Basically the traditional route is from production to retail, the drugs probably don't pass through the hands of a guy who doesn't speak Spanish until they get to the customer. With a big amount of drugs and agents coming from China, that might have changed. I could not imagine many cases where they are dealing with Boston based Detroit gangs along the way.

When big regional busts happen, there are rarely many players in Boston, outside of EB and Chelsea. Usually the adddresses listed are all local Merrimack Valley or places in NH and Maine. Often large sums of money are being sent straight back to DR.

The city of Lawrence is very corrupt aswell with a corrupt police force which has been known to embezzle money, harbors dealers etc. The mayor has also been caught sending large sums overseas and generally embezzling money from the city and countless shady activities. It is a very insular community and doesn't seem like one that would interact with Boston based gangs any more than they absolutely had to

So, it just depends for these cities, which is the case for any decent sized city across the country.

I'll stop...This is in a city that is a little over 25 square miles. To put this into perspective using a state like SC, Syracuse would be like putting the population of Charleston adding about 3-5,000 people or so and putting it in a city the land size slightly smaller than that of Greenville.

In Boston, most of the bust and news is just Boston, Brockton, Randolph, New Bedford, and Providence related. There are certainly large busts in Boston. https://www.justice.gov/usao-ma/pr/3...ciates-charged

https://www.wsj.com/articles/more-th...rea-1454093899

but then there's gangs in Boston founded by New Yorkers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orchard_Park_Trailblazers. And People do readily make that trip to NYC. No doubt on a per capita basis the trafficking is more intense in Lawrence.

The fentanyl is what comes from China, entering the country on the west coast. I think it would still have to route through NYC, most of it.

That's the gist that I get. Lawrence is like some fun Dominican outpost to people in Dorchester/Mattapan.

Providence is definitely increasing its footprint, where there has been a thread dedicated to that on the RI forum.
