Phl and Boston took off before nyc in the 1600s. NYCs quantity just zoomed past both in the late 1700s

Someone living on the 69th floor of a Trump Tower condo on 5th Ave doesn't think they're elite? Or someone living in Back Bay, or Beacon Hill?

Seattle technically isn’t a coastal city. It’s inland located on the sound.

?????

Do you think those are locals? Are the people in Bricknell and on Ocean Drive locals then too?

The Sound is the ocean.

Basically no city is on the open ocean.

I don't know the population figures of each place in the 1600s but it's fair to say that not the time period from which old money stems from-no? That's sort of pre-wealth, pre anything times..

NYC, BOS, PHL and CHI are the old money dominate cities of the nation.

1) NYC
2) BOS
3) PHL and CHI are about tied with the # of old money families.

Philadelphia's old money is primarily on the Main Line, Brandywine Valley, Lower Gwynedd, Rittenhouse, Chestnut Hill and Society Hill with smatterings in other places. Most people who visit do not go to the Main Line or outside the city so they are just not aware of it.

Its also very Quaker and humble and unless you are part of one of the elite social clubs you just don't see it as much. I guess that is the true definition of Old Money??

You were saying that the average Miami local doesn't consider themselves elite, so it shouldn't qualify. By that logic, none of the cities in this thread would count as even in NY the "elites" are a small portion of the overall population.

DC, Philly, and Baltimore aren't on the coast either.

They're a still a greater portion of the population than makes up "local" Miami.
