Yeah parts of Orlando can keep you on your toes for sure. There's like this weird backwoods vibe there even right near downtown you get some of that layered on top of the low income urban surroundings.
Yeah especially anywhere between Downtown Orlando, Union Park, Lee Vista and the Kissimmee area
Pretty much any city on the list, but it also really depends on the neighborhood.
I'm not walking by myself anywhere in rough areas like Brownsville or East New York at night, although I would choose those 2 neighborhoods to walk in at night over "bad" neighborhoods in cities like Philadelphia, New Orleans or Chicago.
Bad neighborhoods in NYC are typically more bustling and diverse than most other similar bad neighborhoods in declining rust belt cities. More people and the NYC vibe is just different. That's just my own take.
I agree. I’ve spent a fair amount of time in those NY neighborhoods and they’re not good but I’d rather do 10 blocks there than any other city because of the foot traffic and as you say, vibe.

I've lived in NYC & San Diego and I think they are both at the top.
However, I'm a man. Women absolutely do not feel as comfortable alone at night in NYC. Heck, the cat-calling prevalent in 1/3 of the city makes women uncomfortable during the day.
This is a topic where there differences vary more within cities than across cities. All of the cities have areas that I would feel comfortable at night and all have areas that I would be more nervous about.
If forced to pick, I would say NYC. The hyper density with pedestrians and miles upon miles of contiguous retail cooridors make it feel very comfortable to walk around in at night.
I have a hard time imagining Orlando not being safe to walk around at night unless you're talking about its teeny downtown. Which I've never been too. It feels like it's just a lot of subdivisions.
Really? Downtown Orlando's size is pretty typical for a metro of its size (similar size as Downtown Charlotte) and certainly has its share of seedy areas. I wouldn't call it "teeny." What makes you say that? And it's certainly not just "downtown..." Outside of the suburbs, it's really not at all "just a lot of subdivisions." It's quite sketchy in A LOT of areas actually.
Some notoriously bad areas that might look nice to anyone from outside that are NOT downtown (except maybe for the third, depending on what your boundaries are):
Seattle is mostly pretty safe but there is a decent number of mentally ill loitering around certain streets and in the tents. There are definitely sections that I avoid walking at night. I just don’t want to run into someone who is bat**** crazy or high on meth in the middle of the night. Things can get unpredictable. Best to not put yourself in those situations. You can’t win, even if it’s 100% their fault. What are you going to do? Sue them?
New York would be my choice. But given how many people are out and about in Las Vegas at any hour of the day, I'd imagine that's pretty safe.
NOLA? Not on a bet.
SF? They'd done a disservice to themselves by not managing their homeless population. Incredibly aggressive panhandling. It was shocking on my last visit there.
I'm judging the person who's scared to walk around Seattle.
Seattle has it's rough spots, but overall safe.
