By "NE" are you referring to Nebraska or New England? I'm guessing you mean New England, so of course those NY areas would remind you of there. They are only about a 30-45 minute drive from New England.

This is a fantastic thread. Thank you all for the tremendous amount of information. I'm in the early stages of considering a move to upstate NY. Upstate doesn't get enough credit for its natural beauty. And while I swore I would never consider living upstate after college, life has a funny way of making you eat your words. Merci.
