Lets look at Urban Areas since there seems to be the argument that there is too much of an imbalance between DC and Boston. The population difference between the two is 600,000 in DCs favor.

There are 180,000 more foreign born Asians in the DC urban area than the Boston urban area.

Here is East Asia by foreign born population.
Washington DC: 133,827
Boston: 131,651

China (excluding Hong Kong and Taiwan)
Boston: 99,142
Washington DC: 61,337

Hong Kong
Boston: 6,475
Washington DC: 4,380

Taiwan
Washington DC: 10,473
Boston: 5,336

Japan
Washington DC: 7,290
Boston: 6,336

Korea
Washington DC: 48,055
Boston: 13,307

Other East Asia
Washington DC: 2,022
Boston: 1,278

Now for Southeast Asia
Washington DC: 114,411
Boston: 56,287

Cambodia
Boston: 8,926
Washington DC: 5,273

Philippines
Washington DC: 38,107
Boston: 10,210

Thailand
Washington DC: 8,163
Boston: 4,661

Vietnam
Washington DC: 51,238
Boston: 26,426

Really there are two areas Boston stands out over DC:
Mainland Chinese population
More urban enclave experience

Everything else is in favor of the DC area. It has a larger community, concentration, and pulls more people from more countries.

Overall, the data points to DC.

I believe this is pretty different than East Asian behavior. Both statistically and anecdotally.

For Chinese alone, sure. However, literally no one disputed that. The questions were in regards to East Asia as a whole.

"Larger community"..

Here is East Asia by foreign born population.
Washington DC: 133,827
Boston: 131,651

Cmon son...

The concentration of East Asians is greater in Boston as well.

Ive gone ahead and removed all the non-East Asian nations for you.

I see 3 advantages for Boston. 1 for DC (Variety)

Anything visitors get from an enclave is just bonus, but their presence is irrelevant to what it means to be a Mecca. Its all about the people from the country in question.

Wouldn't a Mecca at least be relevant to visitors that belong to the ingroup? So an East Asian mecca would matter quite a lot how East Asian visitors domestically or abroad who pass through that area? Thats more aligned with the literal city of Mecca which is a pretty small city... The metro pop of Mecca is like .1% of the world's Muslim population yet at least a good ?100-200? million have been there on Hajj

I would agree.

BUT
I'd assume DC gets more Asian visitors because it's the capital of the United States and DC gets way more visitors in general.

Lol now all of a sudden the numbers don't mean what they are? You're hilarious man. I'll say it's close overall between the two. Boston does well with East Asian diversity, but in the aggregate the DC area edges it out. With the rest of Asia included, they're probably in two entirely different tiers.

Numbers don't lie. I still don't get the point of even calling DC out on this. Better off pointing to another city that can't back up it's diversity.

2,000 people? No, that doesn't mean anything to me. That's too firmly within the margin of error, and in looking at trends- Boston would be ahead in 2021.

Anyways I lived in Boston, I've spent much much time in DC, worked in DC. It's not the same in regards to East Asian presence, it's just not. Mostly due to the colleges in Boston.
