Which Border cities have a bigger cultural difference between them?
San Diego and Tijuana were historically part of the same state until the Mexican American war.
But are obviously demographically different now. And so is Detriot and Windsor
Id say this is a unique discussion to talk about on this forum
Uh, no it’s not. The two aren’t even remotely comparable. As someone who grew up and currently lives in San Diego, but also went to college in Metro Detroit, it’s night and day. Windsor still looks/feels like “America”. You definitely know you’re not in America anymore the second you cross into TJ.
Only 23% of SD speaks Spanish, which to me is an almost insurmountable difference.
IMO a better comparison would be El Paso/Ciudad Juarez or Laredo/Nuevo Laredo.
As someone from a city where Mexican culture is largely mainstream in LA.
Vancouver B.C felt more like a foreign experience to me than going to TJ which is not too different from East LA.
Adding to that a lack of African American culture, French on most labels, and a general British commonwealth vibe that contrasts with mostly African American Detroit in Windsor.
Seeing as your part of the US is a bit Canadian influenced. A Southern Californian like me can easily spot the foriegness of Western Canada.

I've been to Western Canada 3 times. The lack of African American culture in cities like Vancouver and Calgary as a Black person made Canada feel foreign compared to TJ to me, which felt like going to East LA or Pacoima with Spanish stop signs.
There's also a Britsh influence that doesnt exist in Southern California. Especially in Victoria B.C where there's Castles and British style architecture not found in this part of America.
Yep, I'm a Detroiter...spent a good amount of time in Windsor. Sure, there are some differences (street signs, etc)...but driving through metro Windsor you feel like you could be in metro Detroit. Similar vibe.
