Not sure why some have mentioned Richmond, VA as an option. The OP has asked about Conn vs. Northeast vs. Great Lakes options. Richmond, VA is in the South and not a part of these regions in the criteria.

Why not deep six the limit , view all options, but stay within 40 miles of an airport.

NYC gets low flight costs from dozens of cities due to competition.

I second ckhthankgod above in his recommendation of the greater Rochester area in NY state if you have the fortitude for long snowy winters. Very good COL/QOL, and great people.
