This doesn’t say much. Vegas has great dining but they don’t excel in Italian nor Latin American food outside of Mexican and Central American the way Miami does. Just like Miami doesn’t excel in ANYTHING Asian the way Vegas does. At the end of the day, these two come out to preference and opinions. Theyre both experiences you can’t get anywhere else in America. If you prefer the Strip that’s completely okay, blots of people prefer south Beach. You’re not comparing Cleveland to Vegas/Miami so it’s not a radical opinion either way.

Edit: I was gearing that response to Redlion who made it out to be like the Strip dwarfs South Beach. seeing your other responses, this doesn’t seem to reflect you.

Naw it doesn't dwarf it I prefer the strip (I actually prefer Fremont Street)). I think there's more to do. But south beach has etter views more of the beautiful people, and of course the beach. I believe it had better Latin food.

I like stand up comedy, steakhouses, legal weed, dryer air (I sweat way too much), hiking and combat sports- so for me Vegas is superior.

Yes, Vegas is more your speed if these are your preferences… but I want to address these two.

Steakhouses - If you mean traditional American steakhouses, then no doubt. But Miami is the #1 city for South American style steakhouses which I personally prefer.

Legal Weed - On south beach, it’s almost as if it was lmao. But no dispensaries so yeah…

Edit: Since you like steakhouses, I recommend trying Mastro’s in Boston. I tried the Houston location recently and loved it. It’s extremely pricey though so keep that in mind before going.

Much nicer views and doesn't get anywhere near as cold as Vegas either. For me being cold and trying to enjoy an area like South Beach or the Strip just doesn't jive.

You don't think South Beach has great restaurants as well? Dining outside in South Beach's lush environment is just awesome.

Magic shows, Mickey Mouse and Spider man lol? I will give you boxing events but how often do people go to those?

Then when looking at what's outside of South Beach and the Strip it quickly becomes a laughable comparison.

Now is it my turn to name all the benefits of being in South Beach instead of the Strip?

To me these temps suck for a nightlife area. But then agian I love the steamy sexiness of South Beach. Most gorgeous women love it too.

I never said you can't do day parties and rooftop parties on South Beach. I'm saying you get that and much more on the strip than you do in South Beach. There's simply much more variety on the strip compared to South Beach. Matter fact when I went to south beach I did exactly those things. Went to a day party, went to a rooftop party, went to the Beach, went to high end restaurant and literally partied till sunrise.

I had a really good time on South Beach. It was the best thing about Miami imo. But the strip was much more my scene. And the beaches are beautiful but I'm not big on beaches.

Now as far as the women, yeah gorgeous women were all around and was definitely nice to look at especially on the beach. But I'm married and went there with my Wife. It's only but so much side eye looks you can do on a trip with your wife, family and friends.

As far as the Strip, first of all I can go from casino to casino without having to be outside for a long period of time. So weather is a non factor especially when I'm indoors more than outdoors.

As far as boxing events. Forget the actual boxing match. Whenever there's boxing events going on the strip always has extra events and festivities going on around the boxing event. On top of the attractions the strip already has on any given day.

All in all, you can not convince me that South Beach is better than the Strip. I've been to both. I'm going back to Vegas in December. I'm in no rush to even go back to South Beach. Frankly, I don't ever have to go back to South Beach. Been there done that.

First of all, South Beach has some of these things. Second of all, South Beach has lots of things the strip doesn’t. The Strip doesn’t have miles of sandy beaches, pool parties, and top notch Latin American and Italian food.
Not a Beach person and don't care about pool parties. Matter fact me and my Wife were invited to a pool party and a club while in Vegas and I turned it down because that's not my thing. I don't want to be at a pool around a bunch of 20 something year olds with overpriced drinks in hand trying to hit on the opposite sex. I'm past that stage.

As far as food, South beach might have better Latin American and Italian food but imo Vegas exceeds at pretty much everything else. It's much more of a culinary destination than Miami.

Plus I forgot to mention the shopping. Vegas shopping on the strip easily beats South Beach. That and live entertainment can't be beat.

I think at the end of the day it's all about preference. If you prefer beaches, lush environments, Latin/ Caribbean culture than South Beach is better than Vegas. If you prefer a little bit of everything at your fingertips, live shows, bright lights and high end shopping than Vegas is better. I'm more of a Vegas guy than South Beach.

I think he's saying most of the popping/exciting things for Houston has come out decades since you were a kid, and the things that appeals to 20 year old Houstonians today, and would more likely appeal to yourself as 20, doesn't appeal to you now that you are much older.

For example, I live in central Austin and the edge of Houston. The people I know and distances to things, as well as access to a vehicle, makes it that, this last year in Austin and Houston even during Covid, than I've done more than any of my previous 3 years in Austin, and 10+ years in Houston.

You can have fun in virtually every city over 200,000. Houston doesn't make it easy, for tourists, but your age, and friend group can really change how and where you have fun in the city.

Just having a deeper connection with one of my friends, this year has changed my perspective on "fun/tourism".

I like travel, but travel is as much about the folks you do it with, as it is about the location.

Obviously you have more life experience than me, so you'll know more about the nooks and cranny's of the city. But once you get to just above a couple hundred thousand people theirs's something unique and interesting going on you just have to dig deeper to find it.

Thanks for the explanation, but it's not about changing tastes over decades or who I'm with. Its about how the city evolved...it is what it is.

I might be in Vegas this December as well. Was considering this month but I dont think so- I like it so much I gotta go multiple times year now...its kinda my favorite place to be.

Plaza Hotel is my go to and I think Ill stick to it until my budget goes up lol. I prefer Fremont Street over the Strip to be honest. Theres way too much walking on the strip this sor tof too big itmakes it difficult to hop around. And you cant really cross LV Blvd. I hate that. The big casino, the big step, and limited crossing is just tough.

When I’ve been to Vegas, I’ve always stayed on the Strip. But I’ve been hearing that Fremont is making a major resurgence so I’d like to check it out sometime. I would like to check out the Golden Nugget there too, since that’s the place I stay in when I go to Lake Charles, LA.

Fremont Street is way more walkable and has a wider variety of experiential things to do in the form of informal street performers, games, ziplines, go karts, quick take take out, street level daquiri bars, as well as old and new casinos, Circa Stadium Swim and TV, the Mob Museum, PRIDE, iHeart Music festival and smaller outdoor organized concerts. And then there's Fremont East-which is a few blocks of outdoor dining and bars.
