Other than it being near Fort Benning, are there other things economically that make it stand out?
Mobile does have a former battleship and also military submarine you can tour, there. More info here: https://www.ussalabama.com/
It also has one of the biggest Mardi Gras(sp?) parades, outside of New Orleans. Along with it having a lot of historic neighborhoods, as well. In a way, you can say Mobile may be like a smaller version of New Orleans. I'm probably forgetting some things one can do in Mobile, but I always thought it was decent for being a smaller city.
And really, about Flint being more important to other smaller cities? A lot of smaller rust belt cities have struggled and are also having to deal with the consequences, when long time industrial plants of some sort closed. Also, Flint isn't alone in having to deal with rusting water pipes. Though I won't deny it's a good thing that issue in Flint, helped to bring up this issue to more importance in a lot of other cities!
Absolutely. Home to a several Fortune 500 and 1000 companies like Aflac, TSYS (Global Payments), Synovus Bank, Charbroil, etc. Also has a thriving downtown and massive outdoor scene with whitewater rafting on the Chattahoochee. It’s the 2nd largest city in Georgia.
I grew up only 3ish hours away and never really heard of anyone going to Mobile, unless it was a cruise or something. Most people would only go to Orange Beach or Gulf Shores.

Now that I think about it, I think I once heard AFLAC was based out of Columbus. Hadn't heard as much about those other companies. Weird I forgot about them. I didn't realize you could whitewater raft, on the Chattahoochee River. That's good, seems like Columbus is nicer than I was suspecting it was. And thanks for answering my question, about what companies, businesses, and local activities one could do there.
