If you didn't tax me, I would have 13% more in income. That's a raise.

Which one is more expensive than Austin in Texas?

Having lived in San Jose for 5 years, I feel qualified in saying San Jose is generally a sh*t hole. I don't know anyone who just "loves" San Jose; they're only there for work. There's almost no downtown scene to speak of - the City is full of homeless, junkies, gangs, students and tech workers.

Well it sounds like youre describing you side of town, to be honest, and San Jose like every other city, has less desirable areas.

A couple of things tho:
1. San Jose has a very low crime/murder rate.
2. San Jose's downtown is very luckluster given the city's size, yes.
3. This is a comparison of Metro Areas, so we're talking about Santa Clara county as a whole, and Santa Clara county has many extremely great areas to live in.

Never been to Austin, but I loved San Jose when I visited. I went in the spring. Beautiful weather, nice views, and had a great night out.

i kind of think of Austin as a bit of a misunderstood city.
i lived there for 3 years.
It's ok for a landlocked City. It has Lake Travis
(not to be confused with Town Lake)/
Not nightmarish for traffic unless you don't happen to like traffic--
then it is extremely nightmarish.
The politics are kind of weird.
Leftists and righties face off (in the bars).
Yup, they have the best amateur pool players in USA,
and good drunk ones.
Good place to play pool.
Bring your A game not your bs game.
10 ball was a cult religion long before anyone outside Austin ever heard of it.
It's often used as a speed game to increase skill for 9 ball.
Fouls are behind the head-string.
Not a ton of 8 ball among good players, but fouls are usually subject to pro rules,
and for good reasons if money is on the table. In other words,
ball in hand on fouls (correctly imposed) to prevent barroom/bs tactics
otherwise known as intentional fouling, fake jump shots,
illegal safety shots etc. Every shot short of an object ball struck,
and at least 1 ball driven to a rail, or ball potted is a foul.
You might spot a billiards pro or 2 in the mild winter months.
Leave em alone---or offer some fast loose pool.

Very low crime/murder rate!? What?? Are we talking about the same San Jose? The one with the double homicide 4 houses down from me? And don't get me started on all the car break ins, and gang activity...Ha!! Thanks for the laugh man!

It's a comparison topic. San Jose does have a low homicide rate for a large US city and compares favorably with Austin though both have fairly low homicide rates for large US cities.
