Mississippi and Kentucky has open space, but pretty much anywhere else in the southeast is going to create a situation like Florida with just continuous MSA counties next to each other.
A new Major city in SC would Mahe the whole darn state loosely joined into a CSA. Mississippi is much bigger and less populated, the cities are more spread out. Would benefit a whole lot more from a major city.
If it were in Mississippi, the best spot would probably be at the mouth of the Arkansas River. I'd like something on the Tombigbee to better connect the southern East Coast to the navigable waterways of the Mississippi while avoiding the Appalachians, but the best spot for that would probably be around Demopolis in Alabama (which would also link the Gulf Coast more to the Piedmont region.).
I’m surprised Idaho is kinda running away with this. It is time for the Mountain West to shine now. There’s a lot of potential for growth and the region hasn’t really experience a boom before. I’ve always liked the idea of a major city being in the four corners region where UT, CO, AZ and NM meet.

The last place i want big car centric urban sprawl with every 3rd house sporting a sprinter van or mobile home or any type of big city is the Mountain West.
The mountains are nice. But full of cars and RV's as it is.
Dillon Lake area is already turning into a mini metropolis.
It's kind of shocking almost.
Daunting air stagnation problems at various times of the year plague the metro's.
What an incredibly silly idea. If there's a new city, it should be in a place with feasible access to abundant freshwater.
The main issue with anywhere, East of the Mississippi, is the high rural density, hence why the Western half of the country is only being considered.
Not everyone's gonna be willing to sell. Ancient laws that come into play, and an area of 100 square miles coming in with 10,000 people instead of 200 people. Both are still equally rural, but a 100 ppsm, is a lot more Wahala to deal with than 2.
