Only a handful of US cities have skyscrapers currently over 1,000 feet in height.

New York City - 16
Chicago - 5
Los Angeles - 2
Philadelphia - 1
San Francisco - 1
Atlanta - 1
Houston - 1

Which city or cities will be next to most likely build a "super tall" skyscraper, exceeding 1,000 feet in height?

My guesses are below--

Seattle
Dallas
Austin
Miami
Charlotte
Nashville
Boston
*added these cities after further thought
Jersey City
Las Vegas
Phoenix

What are your picks ?

I could see Charlotte with a supertall, it would actually fit in there skyline. Nashville and Austin are good candidates also. Miami would have been my vote but since the Surfside Building Collaspe building anything maybe heavily scrutinized. Boston has a height restriction I believe, and Seattle and Dallas would have built one by now if they were going to do it imo.

Miami’s Waldorf Astoria residences (already selling units and scheduled to break ground in 1Q 2022) and One Bayfront Plaza (no firm date) will be > 1000 feet.

Seattle has a plan for a mostly residential tower in the 100-story range at 401 7th, though it's been slow-played for a few years...apparently first for the FAA, and now probably wondering if enough people want to live in a financial district these days.

FAA has objected to proposals over 900 feet in Jersey City. The tallest building in JC, 99 Hudson, is 900 feet tall. Originally proposed as a taller building (995 ft) the height was reduced to appease the FAA.

I think building heights in Boston are capped below 1000 feet because of Logan Airport. I think the max height is something like 700 feet.

Ah! I did not know that. But it makes sense due to their closer proximity to Newark International.

Jersey City could have a couple ones just under 1k then, possibly.

Not Boston.

Highest you can build is 880' at Lord and Taylor Site. Or the area behind the garden.. you may be able to get over 925'.

But then you have to fight all the NIMBYs.

My vote is Miami, Austin, Dallas or Charlotte.

Site prep has begun for Austin, and Texas, new tallest tower. The Waller Creek Tower will rise to 1,022ft in downtown.

It is definitely a... different looking tower. So I will hold judgement until this thing is actually standing. I just hope they have an observation deck!

Miami and Austin are definitely getting one. Miami has several proposals, but One Bayfront Plaza is almost a certainty.
