Decent is clearly subjective. Not everyone needs 5 or 6 bedrooms or bathrooms in their home. I'm sure there are tons of options and good price points for 3 and 4 bedroom homes that fall well below 500,000 in the area.

Yeah, I was thinking for the south Atlanta suburbs those look pricier than they should be! And like you said, not everyone needs a house THAT big. I will research this later for places on Zillow and etc to post a link to, but don't have time to deeply research this now since I'm at work.

Yeah - I took a look at homes under 500,000 and closer to 400,000 and there are quite a few homes in the northern suburbs that look pretty nice.

Found a few near Atlanta on Zillow. I started to browse the Atlanta area, as I'm on my lunch break. This one at $380K.

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1...35889260_zpid/

This isn't as big, but the inside looks nicer than one might suspect. And closer to $300K:

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/6...65440837_zpid/

An older build house at $375K(might need a little fixing upping):

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1...35846776_zpid/

And at $266K:

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3...35843080_zpid/

Note I set the maximum filter at $400,000, when I did my Zillow search. I might try a $400K-450K house search, another time.

Not in the United States, but in Toronto. In Toronto proper, a one bedroom condo (when turning 400k USD into Canadian). Basically SF, NYC prices over here. To get a detached house on that budget you are moving at least 90 minutes outside the city.

This home is ANOTHER METICULOUS PRESERVED CHICAGO CITY MID-CENTURY. in Price-point and another older traditional Chicago Brick Bungalow from the 1920s. The home is on a 30' x 124' Chicago within its standard lot size. This home has a lot of its ORIGINAL WOODWORK including the doors and floor. It still has its unpainted original fake Fireplace also. The basement is

This home I called in my original post. A kind of - BARBIE HOME. At least its Kitchen.
It certainly is colorful in the colors and even a portion of its exterior in paint.

I found the KITCHEN unique in I just thought " Barbie Kitchen ".
Never saw the movie. 2-photos of it from the listing.

https://ssl.cdn-redfin.com/photo/68/...048612_7_0.jpg

The Living Room area continues the blues and pinks a bit more intense color.
Clearly, not for everyone and can hurt for a sell being too individualistic.

Even a bathroom that has its older Turquoise tile fully intact shows well maintained.

https://ssl.cdn-redfin.com/photo/68/...48612_13_0.jpg

The back yard is generous on a wider Chicago city standard lot.
A deck built off the garage with a good size back and side yard portion

https://ssl.cdn-redfin.com/photo/68/...48612_27_0.jpg

Built in 1904.
Public facts claim 2,628 sq/ft perhaps when built or still today?
- SELLING PRICE - $600,000 as a currently 2-4 unit home.
The area is zoned R-3 that allows apts.

This home is a traditional Chicago MID-CENTURY home on a standard city lot.
It is timeless and well-loved and cared for for decades as a forever home.
All these homes have REAL PLASTER walls a lost art now with a steel support beam standard.

All well-maintained original hardwood floors were maintained and a very nice kitchen.
A perfectly maintained backyard to the usual 2-car garage with alleyway entrance.
The basement is fully finished in light old school paneling. Still looks fine to me.

The Redfin home photo.

The light-wood kitchen looks neat and real wood.
New trough-style sink and dinette area.

https://ssl.cdn-redfin.com/photo/68/...052791_7_0.jpg

The Living room with its Chicago-style large picture window, old-school custom drapes.

The finished basement has light wood wainscoting paneling.
Another light-wood basement Kitchen and den/dining room, laundry room.

A grass yard/border flowers and usual 2-car garage with alleyway access.

https://ssl.cdn-redfin.com/photo/68/...52791_23_0.jpg

This is another MID-CENTURY similar to the above one with its timeless look.
The owners furniture is STILL WITH ITS ORIGINAL PLASTIC COVERING that looks new yet.

Built in 1956.
No sq/ft given, but the Public facts say built as 1,030 sq/ft without the finished basement.
- SELLING PRICE $399,900.
Last Sold in Good Ole 1985 for. $115,000.

The Exterior of this timeless brick Mid-Century.

The Living room is still with its custom-drapes with its large standard-Chicago window.
The owner STILL HAD THE CLEAR PLASTIC SEAT COVERS ON its French Provincial sofas.
Even that lamp just just sitting on the floor was a thing way back.

Meanwhile if you don't mind going down to Fuquay; a fast growing and charming if not far-removed suburb about 20-30 minutes south of Raleigh.... you can get something much nicer. My sister just bought a house in this area for around the same price as these but on a much larger lot (technically she bought in Willow Spring; which is more remote than Fuquay-Varina)

I am happy to be (a little) wrong... (happy only for the sake of my property value)

Closed yesterday at $395k.

Considering this house just one neighborhood over sold for about the same price right before the pandemic (closed the first week of March 2020!) despite being twice the square footage and a much higher quality inside and out....and would get every penny of a $700k+ list price now... is pretty wild.
