These lists are never about where it's truly more desirable to live, it's where the jobs are all going to. It's nothing more than corporate mumbo jumbo to get more people to collect to these cities and make the labor market more competitive, and drive down wages. This is word for word what happened in Austin. Companies wanted that sweet Texas tax structure, but none of the cities being in red Texas appealed to their employees. So they marketed the "blue city in the red sea" (as if that's not literally any other city in the US if you look at a county break down of national voting patterns) to attract those employees to live there while once again, avoiding taxes. Even though Austin is literally different than no other city in the US when it first started.
The same BS is starting to happen in Nashville, TN. Nashville however has a legitimate music and party scene though given that it's... well, Nashville. And it's probably why Orlando is high too. Nashville and Orlando are also in states with no income taxes, like Austin in Texas. Is that a coincidence? No... of course not... *roll eyes*

Austin is more liberal than most major cities. Especially before it's growth spurt.
This is a survey whose results was included in the US News and World Report Ranking of Best Places to Live, which is actually by metro area.
I made a list of all areas with 1 Million+ population.
From US News: Desirability Survey: Using SurveyMonkey, we polled approximately 3,600 people across the country to find out in which of the ranked metro areas they would most like to live. The metro areas were then ranked according to the percentage of the total votes they received. This survey was conducted in May 2021.
I find the contrast in scores very interesting. Los Angeles for example, ranks 126th in their livability ranking, yet LA is tied for 1st as far as where respondents desired to live.
In fact, the big 3, NY, LA & Chicago all placed 100 or lower in the livability ranking but all 3 soared to at or near the top when it comes to where people would live if they could.
Desirablity Score, Metro Area(Overall Best Places to Live Rank)
10.0 Los Angeles(126)
10.0 San Francisco(15)
9.6 Portland(10)
8.6 San Diego(97)
8.6 Seattle(19)
8.5 New York(118)
8.4 Denver(14)
8.3 Orlando(60)
8.2 Houston(39)
Location: Miami (prev. NY, Atlanta, SF, OC and San Diego)

Here is another ranking from TimeOut listing the 37 best cities in the world for 2021 (rankings for North America in chronological order and world in parentheses):
San Francisco (1)
NYC (5)
Montreal (6)
LA (11)
Chicago (12)
Boston (22)
Miami (25)
Almost every middle/upper middle class family has dreams and visions of living in Orlando.
What? Orlando is the fifth circle of hell.
