Not saying drug usage should be criminalized, but the culture is rotten to the point were criminal behavior/law breaking is accepted unless it's someone shooting. While the other side uses it to dog-whistle to racism/racists.

Even London or Toronto which has a fairly similar culture to America, because folks demand more, theirs's CCTV. Theirs's still crime but they never settle for It's only 5 shootings in my neighborhood this year, their criminal laws, especially in the U.K are extremely strict compared to here, but the policing strategy largely works. London doesn't have murderers roaming the streets because of lack of consequences etc.

Great post. In Seattle here we have same problem, the lily white Democratic city attorney (Nicole Thomas-Kennedy) is running on an abolitionist platform of "No prosecutions" and "Defund the police" in the name of social justice and helping poor and minority neighborhoods. Which is completely asinine and would instead devastate poorer neighborhoods while rich Seattle neighborhoods like Laurelhurst have private security and remain unscathed. A recent poll from Pew found that 75% of Blacks want same or more funding for the police, and not less.

You want a strong middle class in any neighborhood regardless of race? You got to fix crime and make it safe and pleasant to walk around the neighborhood. You can have better and more humane ways of rehabilitation, but you got to start prosecuting the repeat offenders and the violent ones. White progressives have somehow turned abolishing the police and not prosecuting crimes into a social justice crusade. It's stupid to the core and evidence of extreme privilege and sheltering.

Yes, it's lower than the 1990s, yes in most crime categories besides homicides, we are seeing rates of crime that have never been recorded at a lower rate. But that has more to do with demographics than a tangible cultural change away from normalizing anti-social behavior.

The historic low for Chicago, homicide rate is 8 per 100,000 in 1957. It's still far too high to be proud off for a first world country.

Not to mention the bail system, in many American cities is broken, and is literally as a Fox news guy would probably put it a "revolving door".
Some who point a finger at Chicago and say unacceptable. Also can point to their principle large city like Houston and others. I once thought these booming cities cannot have declined older neighborhoods as hoods and look it. They are booming and all is new. They sure do.

Just a sort of double-standard. Being in Suburban Houston.
LOOK AT YOUR OWN MAIN CITY's stats.

It's really apples to oranges when you compare Toronto and London with Chicago. I'm not saying guns equate to crime, but in a way it kind of does. They have federal gun laws compared to the US.

Wow, I didn't think Houston was that bad. Houston also has a lower population, so statically Houston is worst.

Last year Houston had 400 homicides. Chicago had 792.

A lot of minor violent crimes like assault are typically reported at various rates. But Homicides are pretty much reported 100% of the time. And Chicago is significantly worse

No rose colored glasses. Stats are stats. You can find 2017 stats in a link how if White in Chicago. You are a helova lot safer from being murdered. Should someone boast that? Same posters we expect the same kind of defense or offense by city in the topic.

Anyway, Why if White in Chicago one is far FAR less likely to be murdered if that matters.

2016 link posted before on c-d also before.

Chicago: 75% of Murdered Are Black, 71% of Murderers Are Black

https://www.intellectualtakeout.org/...ers-are-black/

Victims by Race:
From a count pre 2015

Homicides BY RACE # of victims and the %

Black ... Hispanic - White - other
- 326 --------- 82 -------- 20 ------ 5
75.3% ----- 18.9% --- 4.6% -- 1.2%

So should ones bias be safe in Chicago if White since you want murders to use alone. No one has rose colored glasses. Murders are up. Still the share by race is similar. All stats count no. Way up even in cities you think no way like Oklahoma City even and Nationwide.

A few years ago it didn't really deserve it but now? Dude, the violence is spreading into the more nicer areas of the city like River North, downtown and parts of the North side. Carjackings almost all over the city. It's not just the south and west side. This is what happens when Cabrini Green gets torn down while electing soft on crime judges and AGs. You allowed the pieces of crap to spread and run rampant.

That being said, there are worse cities.

In all of 2015 Chicago had 513 Homicides and 2990 shot. So far in 2021 Chicago has had 718 homicides and 3927 shot.

Plus “don’t worry about the 2/3rds of the city that’s Black/Hispanic” is umm, not a great message.

Black flight is a serious issue for the city. There are large neighborhoods were any productive member of society is trying to leave. That’s bad.

Stats are stats. Crime stats are not good for any city. One is biased against a city. That is their c-d message over and over. Any city even DC. There is a whole lot more to a legacy city then a crime stat. Just we should play nice and fair. We know if bias for or against a city is there. We just choose a defense and avoid offensive moves to promote bias. But some will and keep it in the negative point.

This is really NOT a city vs city thread. It is those who would defend a Chicago vs those who would go on the offensive against her in most topics we see them do. No one praises crime of calls it trivial. We still can show that in a full case of stats and how cities compare by %'s. The FBI does not place Chicago as worse. Years DC is worse. It is still DC with its legacy as Chicago and great neighborhoods.

I think all here know of the murder rate in Chicago. Now more on how race effects stats. If one fears a city then stay in another. But crime stats tarnish many more cities then Chicago today. Just sometimes we here less.

The thing is people I think are pretty fair to Chicago. After all Tourism numbers are robust and many neighborhoods are booming. The Loop is literally the fastest growing Downtown area in America.

Chicago is the largest destination for big 10 Grads. It’s not like people are just writing off the city.

I think overall the city has a better reputation than like Philly which has a similar crime rate.
