San Francisco plays a big role in the movies set there too. Movies go there to take advanatage of its wealth of character and iconic visuals. Some examples using the internets:

48 Hours
The Rock
Star Trek (mutliple versions)
Dirty Harry
Mrs. Doubtfire
The Presidio
Big Trouble in Little China
Inside Out
Vertigo
Ant Man and the Wasp
Bullitt
The Conversation
Harold & Maude
The Last Black Man in San Francisco
At least one James Bond movie

That's even without the movies that copy it under different names (like Big Hero 6) or take place in the suburbs or satellite areas (The Social Network, Moneyball).

Pittsburgh has a film industry and the city makes good visuals but it's below San Francisco's tier.

Good list, I specified post 2000 just to acknowledge the changing landscape of filming trends (remember when everything was filmed in Vancouver?). I think we've at least established that Pittsburgh beats Cleveland though.

The Bond movie was "A View To A Kill", which was trashed by critics but one of my favorites, and it made great use of the Bay Area for both plot and visuals.

Pittsburgh has a strong film incentive program. The volume of filming isn't necessarily about wanting Pittsburgh's brand, though it seems to be a factor sometimes.

San Francisco is a character in its movies. The brand plays a huge role.

Um. Pittsburgh is by no means in the same tier as San Francisco when it comes to television and film. It is, however, ahead of Cleveland on that front, in my humble opinion.

Jack Reacher
The Next Three Days
Striking Distance
She's Out of My League
The Silence of the Lambs
Flashdance
Sudden Death
Adventureland
Fences
The Fault in Our Stars
Concussion
Groundhog Day
Wonderboys
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
The Mysteries of Pittsburgh
The Dark Knight Rises (I consider this set as well as filmed in PGH due to the Heinz Field scene)

TV

***** As Folk
This is Us
Three Rivers
Mr. Belvedere
The Guardian
Sullivan and Son
Those Who Kill (overlooked A&E show with Chloe Sevigny)

There are always new casting calls for stuff being shot in Pittsburgh.
Lol, that list is supposed to make Pittsburgh the No. 3 location/setting? Half those movies are about 30 years old. BTW, you can add Zack and Miri Make a Porno to that list, too (just actually watched that again the other week and forgot that one was set in Pittsburgh).

Anyways, nationally, I’ll go with Pittsburgh. Other than pro sports teams and the Cleveland Clinic being pretty well known, it’s invisible. Andrew Carnegie, US Steel, CMU.
If you knew anything about Cleveland, there's more than just pro sports teams and Cleveland Clinic. That's the typical ignorant Coastal person's take. JK

To be fair if you asked someone about like Seattle it’d be Seahawks, Mariners and I don’t know Amazon?

Sports teams and like two other things is pretty standard.

Philly would be Cheesesteaks, Sports teams and the Liberty bell.

No, but the way that poster wrote it; they were making it as if Cleveland has nothing and isn't know for nothing but two things.

Everything that was ever filmed in Pittsburgh pales in comparison to this viral video about Cleveland
