Omaha definitely has the best quality of life. Another good place is Kansas City.

Phoenix could be on the list too, bigger metro so lots of jobs in any white-collar field. Has light rail.

Out of the list I voted Pittsburgh. Cincinnati and Buffalo would also be strong contenders, I'd put Toledo and VA Beach last.

I think he is narrowing to the midsized non-hype cities to see if there is anything hiding behind the curtains that has been overshadowed by the spotlight Tier 2 and 3 cities which could be the 'silent' diamond in the rouges. I think his exclusions, while non-personal were very much intentional.

My guess out of this list was Indianapolis with Cincinnati shortly behind.

I've heard alot of praise for Pittsburgh over the years. Have not had the chance to visit but need to check it out.

In terms of young cities that you can stretch your money, I would go with Raleigh. The Triangle has plenty of good paying jobs with an affordable sticker price for housing.

Sidenote: I've heard alot of rumblings about Louisville but have never been. Can anyone share their experiences?

Buffalo from that list, wouldn’t be a bad choice. It fits the affordability and nightlife aspects. Its proximity to a major North American population region doesn’t hurt in terms of more nearby as well.
