Hard to imagine DC is not on the shortlist for innovation. Questionable omission, but at least the area is recognized as a talent hub.

Yup, this list seems to really be pointing to "tech." Although NYC is very reputable in "tech." It's just got a lot of other industries like Finance obviously (among other), that it is more balanced.

I have no idea what the metric in this article is, but this wouldn't be surprising to me at all. DC is a government hub, not an innovation hub...

Im guessing this is specific to Tech talent. Looking at the list of cities, there is no way it isnt.

Very surprised to see Calgary on the list (no offence) and surprised that Montreal or Vancouver (two cities with an abundance of talent) not on the list. Toronto at 17 feels very low, it's easily 10-15 in my eyes.

It's both.

It's a tech hub, with a ton of brain power that works in the private sector.

Booming yes but in what industries? I hear that AZ is getting some chip plants to manufacture. The design aspect is lacking.

Just because one attends/graduates, doesn't mean one stays later on for their careers. Moreover, California is the largest state in population by a large margin (10 million +). So I'm not all that surprised its has the colleges with the highest applications for admissions.
