Too lazy to look, but has any city ever had that many in a 20-year span? I know the Lakers/Celtics both had some runs in the 60's & 70's, and the Yankees have had many runs over the years, but still don't think that compares to Boston in the 2000's.

Boston is 1. La is close at 10 I think but they also have double the teams

Kind of, but LA only has only had NFL football for 5 years of the last 25. And I guess people forget that the Lakers won 5 titles in the last two decades. I did since most were 10-20 years ago.
LA is a city with lots of success yet has a relatively small percentage of passionate fans. We have many passionate fans of the Lakers and Dodgers, but the average fan is more casual. That's who they cheer for when they watch, but they only watch sometimes. The same for the other teams, but in smaller numbers. I've lived in other major metros and the difference is noticeable. I suspect that most of the west coast is similar, with smaller metros like Portland or Sacramento perhaps being more passionate about their teams.
Yeah, I'd count the devils for sure in the same way that the Islanders count. But the NY area has 9 teams vs. Boston's 4, so a bit of a lopsided compare. Impressive nonetheless, and I had forgotten about those amazing Islander's teams of the early 80's.
Didn't the Houston Rockets and Comets go back-to-back together?
