LA is an overrated food city. Not even touching Chicago, let alone NYC
No way does Chicago beat LA in food.
Both cities have amazing regional food, but where LA pulls ahead is the outstanding produce due to the long growing season and its variety of international cuisines that are considered to be the best in the US (i.e. Vietnamese, Chinese, Mexican).
Congrats to Denver for getting three restaurants that earned stars. I won't be adding Denver to this list below because the minimum was 5 restaurants with stars, but maybe Denver will get to 5 by next year. Congrats and good luck in the future.

Here is the 2022 city proper affordable restaurant (Bib Gourmand) list. I didn't include any cities with less than 10 restaurants on the list:
Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant By City Proper (Affordable Restaurants)
1. NYC = 105 restaurants with Bib Gourmand status (300.46 sq miles)
2. Chicago = 53 restaurants with Bib Gourmand status (227.73 sq miles)
3. DC = 36 restaurants with Bib Gourmand status (61.4 sq miles)
4. Los Angeles = 30 restaurants with Bib Gourmand status (469.49 sq miles)
5. San Francisco = 18 restaurants with Bib Gourmand status (46.9 sq miles)
6. Miami = 15 restaurants with Bib Gourmand status (36 sq miles)
"In a departure from tradition, the Michelin Guide announced it will hold its much-anticipated ceremony on November 7 this year — and reveal stars for New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. at the same time."
Current counts for 2023 are below:
Michelin Star Restaurants By City Proper
1. NYC = 70 restaurants with stars (300.46 sq miles)
2. San Francisco = 27 restaurants with stars (46.9 sq miles)
3. DC = 23 restaurants with stars (61.4 sq miles)
4. Chicago = 21 restaurants with stars (227.73 sq miles)
5. Los Angeles = 13 restaurants with stars (469.49 sq miles)
Time for me to see what's up at Visit Philadelphia. (Perhaps relevant aside: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists [NLGJA since 1990] just wrapped up its annual national convention here. Visit Philadelphia was listed as a convention sponsor, and a friend of mine who used to work at the tourism promotion agency informed me that he arranged the contribution that landed the convention here this year. The organization seems to come back here every seven years or so. Given how much the out-of-town conventioneers spend, it was probably a very good return on investment for Visit Philadelphia. —MSE, Philadelphia Chapter Co-President)
Fascinating article, though. It seems that Michelin is promoting a sort of homogenization of restaurants, and that's the opposite of what dining should be IMO. Le Bec-Fin was wonderful, but I wouldn't want to live in a city where every restaurant was a Le Bec-Fin clone.
Mujō and Hayakawa, some of the best sushi/omakase I've had anywhere. I wasn't too impressed with Bacchanalia and Lazy Betty though. Never been to Atlas.
Here are the current 2023 city proper affordable restaurant (Bib Gourmand) list. NYC, DC, and Chicago will be updated in November. I didn't include any cities with less than 10 restaurants on the list so Atlanta just missed the cut with 9 in city limits:
Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant By City Proper (Affordable Restaurants)
1. NYC = 105 restaurants with Bib Gourmand status (300.46 sq miles)
2. Chicago = 53 restaurants with Bib Gourmand status (227.73 sq miles)

4. Los Angeles = 30 restaurants with Bib Gourmand status (469.49 sq miles)
