IMNSHO, as someone who loathes humidity, that eliminates the southeast completely - especially Dallas and Austin. Summer in the Texas Triangle is garbage. Average highs are above 90 degrees for 3+ months (closer to 4 in Austin), and it's humid. If it weren't for AC, neither of those metros would be the darlings they are today. FWIW - it was 94 degrees in Dallas last Sunday (March 27th).
Houston's "average" August high is 96. With that humidity?
That being said it will hit 90 here in Irvine next week.
Dallas is definitely out then. It isn't scenic, and the hiking isn't worth wasting your time on. Austin is better in these regards, but it's not a hiking heavyweight by any means. Texas doesn't have squat for public lands.
So here's the deal, I'm looking to move and am from the Midwest. I'm looking for a place with a decent cost of living, decent weather, good job opportunities. I have my own car so I drive. Here's the cities I'm considering right now.
Raleigh, NC
Atlanta, GA
Charlotte, NC
San Jose, CA
San Francisco, CA
Washington DC
Austin, TX
Miami, FL
Dallas, TX
Portland, OR
Atlanta is the best. You can do all of that there.
