Not sure about Forbes but Michelin does not take service into consideration as part of its criteria.

The ability to get a *quality* taco or birra taco near a gas station is LA to me. I don’t know how good the Mexican food is because everywhere I go I love Mexican good. I don’t think of any of those other ethnicities at all. Mostly because I just think veggie and Mexican and I can get them everywhere i am anyways. I don’t associate them like I would Cuban for Miami or pierogis for Pittsburgh or crabs for baltimore or New England style seafood with Boston…I’ve seen many people on social media disparage Los Angeles’ food scene.
But Cali or at least LA is known for being a vegan paradise- I just don’t equate it with fine dining—yet. I don’t associate great food with LA or like… nice restaurants in general. I’m ready for the slander. But thats my viewpoint.
San Francisco is arguably the second or third best city in the country for fine dining and its in California. What youre talking about is specific to LA, not the state as a whole.

I said that. I say LA/Los Angeles 4 times in the post, chill.
I think LA has great food personally. California cuisine is a part of every state's fabric imo. I think MIchael's in SM was a big part of it. I understand California is a place that we love to hate, but lack of food quality and quantity, save BBQ, is not a challenge. Whatever you want, it has it and it's better than most states.
World renowned food mecca? They're not going to give a five star rating to a hot dog food cart, my man.
Chicago has more Michelin star restaurants than Barcelona, and is widely recognized as a top 10-15-20 food city in the world. And the third most James Beard award winners in the US.
“ Service, says Michelin, isn’t a factor. We look only at the food” says Michael Ellis, the Michelin Guide’s International Director. “Having said that, we would be not happy if we found three-star food and horrible service. I haven’t experienced that.”
