If you've ever wondered what the most isolated major city is in the world you'd have to look at Perth Australia. About the size of the Denver metro, its thousands of miles away from Australia's east coast as well as thousands of miles from any other major city in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Denver has no competition because it stomped out any competitors it had early on. I really don’t see how that’s supposed to be a knock on it’s accomplishments.

Denver is definitely an accomplished city, but just lives me to wonder if KC, Albuquerque, SLC was 2-3 hrs away from Denver, would Denver be as accomplished? Who knows? Would it still have the busiest airport for miles and miles? Who knows? Would the accompanying benefit such as logistics, which made Denver what it is still have gone through Denver? Who knows? All I know is that people who get their undies in a bunch over having major cities near have a very good reason to do so.
It’s all just too hypothetical to have any real relevance. Early city leaders of Denver really just played their cards right. It’s not like other cities in the region didn’t have a chance to become greater than they are today.

It may not have relevance to you, but what is relevant is Seattle and Miami got accomplished despite their competition. Denver never had any so it can't say the same

Miami.
It's not just isolated from other cities, it's isolated from mountains, deserts, changes in terrain, and any of the "better" national parks.
