I think you’re underestimating how much of those kind of posts are in fact, in jest. Because if they were real serious about any non-Boston municipality being another world then there wouldn’t be a million things named after JFK, (or Tip O’Neil from Cambridge) a guy from Brookline, or people wouldn’t be all about “titletown” when half those titles were won in Foxboro, or how the mayor or Chamber of commerce boasts about the “great schools in Boston” which are actually in Cambridge. Nor are people too upset Newton has the largest portion of the Boston Marathon.

Although I think the oddest thing around Rochester NY if the suburbs people just causally refer to all of Monroe County as Rochester while in Monroe County

Respect. A few are in jest, partially idk if im "underestimating" it.. It's a real sentiment, thats why the tweet exists.

But for a lot of people, most people, it's not in jest. Of tose three i showed only the 2nd one looks like it's partially in jest. I had a lot more tweets and some were pretty angyr. But CD wont let me share that much from twitter.

I repeat, it’s so cringey when ppl tell me that they are from Boston or live there and it’s not actually in Boston - just a neighboring town! Idk why we true Bostonians nitpick that’s so much, but it’s so annoying.

Also once again, Cambridge is not Boston. It’s very close to it.

No one really is worried about the chamber of commerce or knows about what they say. Titletown would exist without the patriots but whos not gonna hop on the chance to call themselves titletown?

Boston organizations and the city is gonna bill itself in the most positive light possible. individuals though? nah.

I fel like where both form neighborhoods where some Bostonians say thats not Boston. Ive def heard people be like Hye Park is the suburbs that's not Boston lol. I've also heard people be like East Boston doesn't count or im not talking about East Boston. I've heard this about Westie oo.

A lot of Bostonians dont really know when theyre in Brighton either they think they're in Cambridge or Brookline.

Yeah literally. This is how its done. Im not going into specifics. Ive said Boston, Orlando, Raleigh. Even though i never lived in the city propper. Its just easier.

Not many people from Boston out Patriots Super Bowls in a separate category from the Boston teams. I know none.

Ask 1000 random people in Boston “how many championships do Boston teams have?” Almost 0 will say 6

okay... but no one in Boston would say the patriots play in Boston. This argument is weak as all hell. This is like saying why do people in NY/DC claim the Giants/Commanders as their own.

Just toss this part out. The Patriots don't even pretend to be a Boston team they're called the New England Patriots.

And I know you're not serious in asking why the mayor is touting nearby institutions of higher learning. Toss that out too.

Lots of things in Boston (and the world) are named after people not from Boston (insert whatever city) . Saying Tip O'Neil tunnel isn't saying "Tip Oneil, Boston native" this is a crazy leap lmao.

I'm sure there are plenty of things in Boston and after people not even from MA. So we can toss that out too.
