A man was shot and killed yesterday in Hampton, in the far west side of Buckroe. Suffered critical injuries and died hours later at the hospital. Usually when they manage to get to the hospital they survive in Hampton, but not this time. That's 28 for the year. 4 homicides in 2 days on the Peninsula. Tit for tat...
Also in Suffolk a 22 y/o man was killed after being shot while driving, crashed and car went up in flames. Happened in the east downtown area. That's 10 for the year.
Not murders but two people were stabbed at a Salvation Army in Norfolk last evening. Extent of injuries unknown, so could be upgraded, who knows; but that's never a good sign.
Cleveland had a homicide yesterday, a 60-year-old man in Cudell on the city's northwest side, so I'm doubtful that one is gang-related.
On the bright side, the last time Cleveland was updated on here was on July 26 with 125 homicides. There was actually another on July 27. That one on July 27 probably put the city around 20 to 25 just for the month of July and easily over 50 between the start of May to July 27.
Since then, the U.S. Marshalls, Ohio Highway Patrol and Cuyahoga County Sheriff's partnered with Cleveland Police to crack down on the violence. From what I recall, they had caught I believe 7 people wanted on murder charges in the first week or so of it. The other day, read an update that they have also arrested nearly 100 people wanted on violent felony charges in the past two weeks alone.
This crackdown heavily targeted the areas I've mentioned on this thread that were going nuts (St. Clair-Superior/Glenville/Collinwood/Forest Hills) and it looks to be paying off. Yesterday's homicide was just the fourth in the city since July 27. Historically, August has probably been the worst month for homicides.
I don't think the city can continue at a pace of only 4 in a 33 day span (that would be 44 over a span of an entire year), but what was looking like a year that was going to end up around 215-225 may be more around 170, which is about what it has averaged over the past decade. Considering where the city was a month ago, 170 or lower would be a remarkable turnaround.
wow I had no idea CLE was on such a streak. Turns out policing works, who knew.

Everybody talks about homicides are dropping in several cities. But Seattle is not just on pace to pass 2022/2021's homicide count. But also it's all time record high of 69 homicides back in 1994 with only 3 months left in 2023.

That's sad. It used to be one of the safest cities along with San Diego and Boston.
