Very weird because New Haven was doing very well. Hopefully just a blip.
Philly continues to be down from the last two years but still way too high. 23 so far compared to 36 at this time last year.
No doubt the level of violent crime is of course still unacceptable in Philly, but at least it (preliminarily) now appears to be much more in-line with pre-pandemic levels of unacceptability. Fingers crossed that the decline sticks.
The smaller cities are leading the pack in VA so far this year; namely Portsmouth and Hopewell at 3 each. That's usually what Hopewell averages for an entire year.
Now Portsmouth had its 4th last night, Hampton also now has 3.
And Baltimore being Baltimore, they're up to 15 (17 if you count the two that were shot last year but died this year) up to 1/20. Didn't see any homicides over the weekend so I believe that figure is up to date.
Suburban Anne Arundel County has its first homicide of the year in Annapolis, a 18yo that was shot and killed in one of the more notorious area of Annapolis (Newtowne Dr...it's basically housing project). Another 16yo was shot at Severn (again in one of the bad area of AA County) but survived.
