It's more because Portland used to be much much lower whereas the previous rates of Pittsburgh were already somewhat high, although even worse now...so Portland's number is more shocking and noteworthy

Yes, this. Portland used to be one of the safest cities in the country, up there with San Diego. It's looking like it is no longer the past few years (since 2020).

So far all males except for one female.

Youngest includes a 8 year old killed by his grandfather, a 9 year old killed by his father, and a 14 year involved in a shooting that also killed a 17 year old.

2022 was up "only" six homicides to 96, but it averaged just 23-24 murders per year in the 2010s.
