Newport News at 11 after a man was shot to death in the East End area yesterday.
Portsmouth at 20 after a man was shot and killed in front of his children while trying to make a payment at a daycare. Seems the mother of the children set him up; drove him to the daycare and to his untimely demise, only to meet with the killer at a VB motel later. Up from 12 this time last year.
I don't recall this ever happening, but VB and Norfolk are neck and neck at 13 murders going into the mid-year mark. Norfolk is way down 50% decrease while VB is about even.
We'll see if the city can sustain it, but Norfolk appears to be coming back to normalcy. Norfolk averaged 58 murders for the 3-year stretch of 2020, 2021, and 2022. That's way above its 3-year average from 2017-19 of 37, and it's 2010s decade average of 34. Time will tell if the early 20s were an anomaly, or if a decline this year is the anomaly, but as of date the early 20s was way above normal violence levels in Norfolk...
It is unusual to see VB and Nfk with the same number of homicides, but The Beach often swings from homicides in single digits, up to the mid 20s, for no apparent reason at all...
Thank you! Cincinnati, Akron, and Toledo are all doing very well so far! Columbus seems to be about average. Hopefully Cleveland continues to trend downward.
EDIT: Just saw above that Cleveland is up so far this year. Oh well.
Anyone know how Youngstown is doing? I always root for that city to make a comeback.
Youngstown around 4 or 5 so far it is down but Cleveland is slightly up it at 74

Assuming the pattern holds, the city is on pace for it's first sub 300 homicide year since 2014.
It seems like not too many around downtown and an improvement but just need to focus on rt 40 on the west, park heights and get Hartford rd under control.
