I am not bragging on either one. St Louis can be quiet for three or four weeks and then all hell will break loose. I wouldn't read anything in to this.

Good news for Buffalo and Rochester. Hope they both stay under 50.

Was surprised at how high Niagara Falls was considering its population is under 50k. Then I saw that they had 18 homicides in 2020 so I guess 7 at the midway point of this year is bad but not off the charts bad.

Baltimore ended June with 138 (132*), only for July to start with a bang with a "mass shooting" that killed 2 and injured 20+. Total now 140 (134*)

Things are trending similar to 2018 (302 for the year), so crossing fingers that there won't have a crazy July which push the number way up.

6% fatality rate...

This is why I keep telling folks to assess a city's progress or lack thereof on shooting victims or shooting incidents rather than total homicides.

A
Milwaukee as of now has 44 fewer homicides with 6 more shooting victims YTD.

Pittsburgh is at 26 now. Down from last year (need to check to see how far down).

It seems like we are looking at a 2023 homicide rate typical of cities like Chicago, DC, and RVA. Not good.
We honeymooned in Roanoke. Had a great experience overall. It definitely had a downtrodden/socioeconomically-depressed ambiance to it, though (we explored more than just Downtown). We were surprised by the number of unhoused humans/panhandlers milling about, too, for a city of just 100,000. Hopefully given how affluent Virginia is overall the state can invest more money in fixing Roanoke's issues. If done correctly Roanoke could truly flourish into a less trendy Asheville, NC.

That is incredible for Buffalo! Thanks for sharing! I am less impressed by Rochester given its much smaller population than Buffalo (and the fact that it almost has as many homicides as much larger Pittsburgh). Obviously that city needs to get its act together.

Niagara Falls, NY is a dump. It's truly sad considering all of the billions of dollars in annual tourism revenue spent in the immediate area. It would be nice if New York State would consider pumping some money into Niagara Falls, NY at some point.

The key is that not all shootings are reported, and it's a lot harder to dig into shooting victim statistic than the homicide number.

And for Baltimore...yeah, there are so many injured shooting victims that I lost track, just a truly sad reality of part of that city.
