Without needing a car to get around (urban, walkable), without high taxes, and without the crime?

Say, rent for a studio/one bedroom for around $2500, with 5% state income tax?

A budget of 2500 for a studio/one bedroom is pretty doable in most cities besides San Francisco.

You can get a decent studio/1BR for WAYYYYY less than $2,500 in Chicago! That is absolutely astronomical.

I would say Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh. Minneapolis would fit the bill if state income tax wasn't approaching 9%.

Second this. You could do way less than $2500 and get a very solid studio or 1 bed in a safe urban walkable neighborhood in the city.

Studios under $2500 exist even in San Francisco and Manhattan. Nothing special, but exist.
And for anywhere else that is a good budget.

you can get a 2 bedroom in Brooklyn for 2500. Obviously its harder in the gentrification/souless parts of Manhattan/Brooklyn.

Yeah OP.... anywhere is your answer.

Yeah, but keep in mind, $2500 in Chicago gets you into the luxury/amenity buildings in nearly any neighborhood... Most desirable neighborhoods, modern apartment, door security, gym, rooftop, pool, free espresso, golf simulator, etc.

It can in the NYC area too. You just can't live in gentrification station (ie, Lower Manhattan, Williamsburg, DUMBO or Chelsea).

I see plenty on Zillow from $1800-2100 in many parts of NYC with nice amenities.
