Hello everyone,

I recently was watching a video of the Georgia mountains and decided to check put the Blue Ridge area and wow, was it beautiful. I lived in North Carolina before and am familiar with its mountain towns (especially Asheville, which is technically a city) but wanted to get feedback on which state you all think has the better mountain region for things to do? Thinking about booking a trip at a cabin in the Georgia mountains but not sure where yet.

I would think NC has the better mountain region for things to do. Skiing, white water rafting, more lakes, casinos, college sports, shopping, more variety in terms of towns.

Georgia has great mountain towns, but North Carolina has better ones—and more of them.

Yea, have to go with NC.. ..Although I do have to give credit to Helen and Dahlonega GA as very nice town in the mountains. NC has more terrain that encompasses the mountains and it also has Asheville.

Some of the highly picturesque areas in NC are very close to the GA state line (e.g. Highlands), so it's worth visiting either state and crossing the border in your explorations of this beautiful region.

If you are in search of "Mountain towns" in NC and you did like Asheville.....you should definitely check out Boone & Blowing Rock. Higher elevation and definitely more "mountain-town" vibe. With the exception of the dining options; I personally feel like Boone blows Asheville out of the water as a mountain town to visit.

I've never really heard of Boone as being the mountain town to visit in NC. I've passed through a few times on the way to other places. Blowing Rock is nice, Banner Elk is cool. I've heard good things about West Jefferson. In terms of the NW mountains, besides App State football and Vidalia restaurant, what is appealing about Boone? I have a list of mountain towns to visit, give me a few reasons to check the town out.

The Georgia Mountain Fair is nice. NC has more varied terrain and its mountains cover more square miles. Transylvania County, Macon County, and Swain County have some picturesque towns. Enjoy yourself.
