Forbes Travel Guide just released their annual list of 5 Star hotels. Here’s the results.

From the results, we see NYC, Miami, LA, Vegas and Boston seem to be considerably ahead of the rest. No surprise there besides Boston. Of course I expected Boston to be ahead of most, didn’t realize they had it like that! Would’ve expected Chicago instead of Boston in this group.

Texas only has 2. Geez. For a state this big that’s growing so fast, hospitality and tourism clearly isn’t where we excel. Can’t use the same reasoning as the Michelin Travel Guide of “they don’t even go to Texas” because plenty of properties were examined.

NYC - 10
Miami - 9
Los Angeles - 7
Las Vegas - 6
Boston - 5
SFBA - 4
DC/ NoVa - 3
Chicago - 3
San Diego - 3
Park City, UT - 3
Rhode Island - 3
Napa Valley - 3
Oahu - 2
Maui - 2
Philly - 2
Santa Barbara - 2
Sea Island, GA - 2
Aridonacks - 1
Berkshired - 1
Saratoga - 1
Colorado Springs - 1
Dallas - 1
Hawaii (Big island) - 1
Hilton Head - 1
Houston - 1
Kohler - 1
Jackson Hole - 1
Lanai - 1
Maine - 1
Montana - 1
Pittsburgh - 1
Raleigh/Durham - 1
Telluride - 1
Tucson - 1
Vermont - 1
Williamsburgh - 1

Thanks for sharing! I’m impressed Sea Island and Park City both have more than 1. Sea Island I’m particular since it’s so small.

Any chance you have the full list here to compare to last year? If I counted correctly there's only about 88 hotels on this year's list as opposed to 95 on last year's list. Would be interesting to see what caused that kind of shift.

This was the full list from last year. Houston had one not listed now, Miami had 8 so must have gained one, and DC had 4 in which the Trump hotel switched hands to Waldorf Astoria, but I doubt it should have lost a star in just changing names. Interesting that on the list after Boston there's an additional ones on Cape Cod, and 3 more in RI.

Then when the Raffles Hotel in Boston opens, that will definitely crack the top 50, if not the top 20.

Based on the above 2022 list, it appears that the Rittenhouse Hotel was added for Philadelphia as the second hotel along with the Four Seasons for 2023.

Found the 2023 list. These are the new 5-stars for 2023:

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley- Napa (CA)
Montage Healdsburg- Sonoma, CA
The Boca Raton Beach Club- Palm Beach
Trump International Hotel & Tower- Chicago
Chatham Bars Inn- Cape Cod (MA)
The Rittenhouse- Philadelphia

The Trump International in Washington D.C. that changed hands to Waldorf Astoria, simply wasn't rated at all, likely related to the change in ownership that took place in 2022. But it did not lose a star. I'd expect it to be back on the list for next year. Also Houston does still have 1 on the 2023 list for this year, so my quote earlier is mistaken.

I can confirm the Four Seasons in Philly. I was just there two weeks ago and Wow! Awesome experience, especially when it's not on your dime.

Seems odd as well to split up by island the six in Hawaii that were chosen.
