I don't have to "handle" the cold, though. If I go outside, I just wear clothes. Minnesotans embrace winter!

Summers here are already a bit too hot for me; my quality of life would degrade vastly in the Sunbelt states during the summer.

Can you keep a few others up there with you? The sunbelt states are all full! Thanks.

Outlaw air conditioning. Without that, the Sunbelt would lose 2/3 of its population overnight.

Phoenix for sure. I haven’t experienced monsoon, but it has to beat the constant mugginess in that part of Texas.

That’s a pretty dumb thing to say. It’s like saying “if driving were outlawed everyone would move to the North east”. AC is never going to be outlawed.

Good for you, but most people in Texas (can’t speak for Arizona) feel similarly about summer. There’s always a list of activities people look forward to doing in the summer, people dress for it, and people stay hydrated as they need. Heat doesn’t crest extra chores like cold does. You don’t have to shovel heat, you don’t have to have special tires on your car for heat, and you don’t have to plan extra chores in your morning because of heat.

I’ve been to Minneapolis in winter and I agree. You guys do a great job of embracing winter. But you guys are also the outlier. I used to live in Chicago and they definitely do not.

No, really? I'm just pointing out the main reason why the Sunbelt has grown is because of AC. If it weren't for that the southeast would still be a hillbilly backwater.

How highly you must think of yourself.

If this hadn't happened, if that had happened... all worthless to any argument.

The southeast was actually pretty populated prior to the invention of AC. In 1900, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina were in the top 15 most populous states. Alabama and Mississippi in the top 20.

Had AC never been invented, I’m sure Americans would find a way to manage like so much of the world does without it.

AC, but also, LCOL and conservative politics.
