But also, while both Florida and Louisiana are known for swamps, Florida has a high tourism pull which increases the broader public’s awareness of alligators there. See the sad Disney story.

Florida probably “wins” this as a result of more media reporting incidents even though Louisiana has the most alligators of any state (2M vs 1.3M in FL), one of my favorite Yankee pitchers, Ron Guidry, was from Louisiana and carried the nickname “Gator” (in addition to Louisiana Lightning) and being one of the old timers on this forum I fondly remember the gator farm scene from the James Bond movie “Live and Let Die”.
Not uncommon to read about missing dogs in FL that got attacked and/or dragged into water by a gator and/or gators that show up at some person’s front door !!
Lived in Louisiana for many years. Alligators are only found in the south in the bayous whereas they’re pretty much everywhere in FL except the extreme north.

Louisianas focal points is in the Southern part of the state though so the population lives around the alligator areas.
I agree with the posters above that Florida gets the association more due to being a tourist destination as well as the school mascot.

Not sure of your point. The reality is regardless of ‘tourist destination’, alligators are more prevalent in most areas of FL than in LA.
