This poll really should have included Georgia ( Atlanta ) !!! It would have taken the cake and won, the more i look at this... I can see Georgia really being more like Mississippi and less progressive than Alabama without Atlanta. Only way it would have been any different would be if a 2nd tier, may be Macon would be levels up or maybe say Savannah would have become a real major coastal city for the state... other wise more Mississippish if not worse.

Eh, with Augusta, Columbus, Macon & Savannah - all of which are in better shape than Jackson, no. Take away Metro Atlanta and its 6 million people, Georgia would still be larger by 2 million. Not just no, but not even close.

No, it really shouldn't have.

The states in this poll were curated for a discussion that would be made much less interesting with the inclusion of Georgia.

Here's a similar poll with Georgia with states that make for a meaningful comparison:

Which makes the discussion of Maryland even more fuzzy.

The only way "Baltimore MSA" doesn't exist is only when Baltimore City itself disappear from the face of the earth. But if that's the case, the likes of Howard County or AA County would just become suburban fringe of DC. Then there's also Annapolis - part of Baltimore MSA but without Baltimore (the city), Annapolis would have an orbit of its own forming "Annapolis MSA".

But of course, the premise is also "Baltimore MSA does not exist" so the likes of Howard and AA County also doesn't exist...

All the other MSAs has enough separation to the adjacent MSAs (or uSAs) that this doesn't become a problem.

Honestly it’s way more centralized than that. It really only overlaps where Howard, PG & AA meet (everything between 32 and 198 i.e Laurel) as that’s the only area where there is truly seamless development.

You go a mile north or south of either freeway and your are fully into the other cities subjective/cultural/economic orbit.
