Other than the more temperament weather, Greenwich CT wins by the landslide.

This is definitely the case where East Coast outshines West Coast.

Outside of climate, Greenwich.

Greenwich clears bar climate and shopping.

I would even say food and diversity categories are close too.

But overall, Greenwich is the better place by a mile.

Tiburon (Marin County) would be a better and tougher match up.

Tiburon/Belvedere is amazing, but the size difference with Greenwich is to wide.

Yes, the West Coast equivalent is going to be the Palo Alto/Los Altos area.

Schools (K-12): Greenwich - The schools are very highly ranked in a state that ranks No. 3 for education.
Food/Drink: Greenwich - It’s local dining scene is excellent with lots of great local places.
Natural Recreation: Newport Beach
Transportation: Greenwich - Metro North offers unbelievable train service from four stations in town. Nothing close to that in Newport Beach.
Diversity: Greenwich is surprisingly diverse for such a wealthy town.
Cleanliness/Crime: Tie
Economy: Greenwich - Not only is it a major hub for Hedge Funds, it is near both Stamford and New York City with their major economies.
Arts/Architecture: Greenwich - I don’t find the California contemporary architecture of Newport Beach particularly interesting or exciting. My dentist office has more charm.
Shopping: Newport Beach - Fashion Island offers a lot more than Greenwich’s Greenwich Avenue.
People: Greenwich - Though wealthy, Greenwich is surprisingly down-to-earth.

Winner - Greenwich.

All of this, coupled with amazing beaches and year round mild weather, Newport wins, IMO.
