If we're splitting up in subgroups, then I would say that lower Bergen County, New Jersey is the East Coast "mecca" for the Korean community and overall rivals that of the Los Angeles area. Palisades Park is probably the only majority Korean municipality in the US and that's immediately adjacent to a bunch of other municipalities that are plurality or have a large proportion of Koreans. It's probably why so many of the Korean chaebols have their US headquarters there like Samsung and LG. Korean-American grocery chain H Mart is also headquartered in Lyndhurst, Bergen County. Again though, it's odd to divide New Jersey out from NYC given the other ones are mostly metropolitan areas as there's a lot of back and forth among the different enclaves. For example, the original H Mart was actually in Woodside Queens before moving its HQ out to Bergen County.

The DC area one is sort of funny in that it's particularly tied up in the Unification Church and its offshoots though the NYC area ones have that as well.

Bonchon chicken too. Started in NYC but the first retail location was in Fort Lee. I used to go every now and then in the first couple of years they were in existence.

And yes, eastern Bergen county (east of the Hackensack river) has been the Asian mecca of the East coast going back to the 70's-80's.

I have no doubt that the Northern suburbs of Atlanta and Western/Southern Suburbs of Raleigh/RTP will soon give Northern NJ and Northern Virginia a run for their money in this category. Particularly for South Asian presence.

I honestly don't think so at all simply because the rate of growth of Asian residents in those areas doesn't come close to Northern NJ.

idk, the growth rate is higher in RDU area and ATL, over N/CNJ now.

Also, I went to Rutgers (iykyk lol) and lived near Edison and now live near Little India in JC... a lot of younger Indian Americans and South Asians do not see NJ as their last stop. Its a stop. But they want to get the education and build the equity and move somewhere cleaner, and less expensive. A la, Raleigh, Charlotte, Atlanta, Orlando, etc...

Only very few youngins plan to stay in NJ long long term. And as we saw from 2010-2020, the growth rate is accelerating down in aforementioned metropolitan areas, while NJ starts to slow.

Of course there will be a huge South Asian presence (ESPECIALLY in Central Jersey), but a lot will shed to the southern metropolitan areas.

I run the "deeds recorded" report for Wake County every morning to see what sales happened the previous day and get a better idea of comps/sales trends as the MLS is currently a poop-show and doesn't contain all sales; but the Registrar of Deeds does.

If you sort by "grantee" (the seller); and look at deeds recorded where the grantee is a builder (ie...new construction sales)...most days generally 80-90% of grantors (the buyers) are South Asian. The overwhelming majority of new home construction sales in Wake ( at 1.2 million now the most populous county in NC and the Southeast outside of Florida) are to South Asian buyers and yes most are actually moving from other areas of the US (mostly Silicon Valley, Northern Virginia, and NJ in my anecdotal observations)

So, if somebody is South Asian and born in the US it wouldn't count. Raleigh/Charlotte/Atlanta aren't large portals of entry. There isn't that much of established communities there. It's where you go after.

Can't really put numbers on this outside the decennial census.

A lot of children of immigrants are leaving C/NNJ for RDU CLT ATL...

Exactly my experience. I worked for State Farm in 2021 and most new home buyers in Wake/Durham counties were South Asian descent.

I want to say 50-60% of homes.. and about 80% of homes over $500k, at the time, were to South Asian home buyers.
