There is nothing to defend; people just got defensive. idk why--It's been noted as a somewhat positive trait in (many) other threads... how it's become a "negative," I'm not sure. Maybe folks are internalizing the fact that its not really responsible for poor folks/kids to rent exotic cars.

I couldn't have possibly anticipated id receive this much (really ANY ) pushback on that comment, but here we are.
Great you think it’s not negative, then maybe you can give it a rest? Because it looks like you’re the most passionate one arguing with others here.

Besides I really don’t see the “show off” “flashy” argument has anything to do with the topic: the wealth ranking.

You can keep going. I’m ok you having the last word.

only cuz I'm floored at the denial of the obvious. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

Bingo. This is just Miami, and to a lesser extent Dallas and Atlanta culture. It's neither good or bad. It just is. Of course it's not everybody in Miami but it's also more prevalent there than say in Austin or Houston. Miami is image-conscious. What's hilarious though is when people think it's a real sign of wealth. renting a Bentley for three hours to cruise up A1A.

Remember, sometimes the millionaire next door wears a flannel shirt and drives a Honda civic to pick up his pool supplies. Of course, I wouldn't wear flannel around Miami most months.

It is irrelevant if this is every day or not.... if this is your default flashy or default prom, we are from two very different worlds. Those vehicles, those dresses, the police escort, everything.

But per your own words, they're "flashy people" I take that to be synonymous with "showy."

Those whips are nice though.

I see your point but am less bothered by this group, acting like this on an important night in their lifetime, once in a blue moon.

You should see some of the types I run into on a more frequent basis in Miami who if not flexing luxury items on a regular basis are flexing their mouths to the point I need to wear boots to avoid stepping in all the crap that comes out of it.

Examples include the bouncer who tries, but fails, to impress me with “my investors” working its way into 1 of every 2 conversations; the wealth manager who says “I make rich people richer” (excuse me while I vomit—his top tip in one conversation, Albermarle, is down 1/2 within the past year); the guy who claims to know this guy and this owner in Italy and has “several projects I’m working on over there” yet recommends a $180 hotel to me (doesn’t line up with what he’s pitching/projecting). These are but a few examples.

I refer to these types as “peacocks” and it reminds me of a YouTube video, “I’m a real douche in the Scottsdale bars” (also one for Gaslamp San Diego). The signature line from the video is “look at me, look at me, fake millionaire make $50G.”
