Both of these cities have very modest skylines although Memphis has a denser urban core. I love SLC, but the only thing impresive about its skyline is the mountain backdrop. SLC has a few snazzy new mid-rise buildings, but Memphis has a much larger collection of old high-rises.

So if you like new stuff, you'd probably like SLC's skyline better. If you like old stuff, you'd probably like Memphis's skyline better.

Two very different cities. Went to Memphis back in March for my 23rd birthday (huge Elvis fan, by the way I was surprised to see how run down the area around Graceland was..yuck) and then had a layover in Salt Lake on the way to Memphis. I think I am going to have to give this one to Salt Lake. The skyline looked more impressive to me (yes I could see it from the airport!) and you can't beat those moutains as the backdrop.

oh skyline - i think its a tie. i like SLC's skyline. the mountains of Utah make it much more appealing. both have good urban fabric in the downtown.

geographically, utah wins.
